Take one new-fangled 'metallic' wheel hub (8428, 8432, 5203, etc.)
and one 8880 Supercar rubber tire; combine.
The result doesn't work perfectly (it certainly does not look
as if this was intended by TLG, though it wouldn't have taken much),
but the tire's bead does stay in place behind the rim well
enough.
Whether this looks better than the original is a matter
of taste (and vehicle application), but the neutral grey-silver
fits arbitrarily colored cars better than the white hub,
which somehow only seems appropriate for an Audi Ur-quattro.
Of course this doesn't help the lack of separately
available 8880 wheels/tires, which would be nice for making use of
the extra steering setup left over when making a not-4-wheel-steered
car...
I'm trying to replicate the 8865 technic-axle-hub-using steering
knuckle; sadly, the thicker 'neck' on the grey axle/ball piece
limits suspension travel rather too much. An axle
end works better, though.
