I now know that it is possible to make one of these, but does anybody have any ideas on how to make a pneumatically powered transmission have more than two speeds? I have just built one, but I failed horribly. It has two gears, but only one speed (...) (25 years ago, 5-Aug-99, to lugnet.build)

(...) It _says_ 'hydraulic' in many places, but it's really a pneumatic cylinder/plunger with a spring. Compressing, the plungers' valve opens all the way; releasing, airflow is restricted and slow the expansion of the spring. -gbr (25 years ago, 4-Aug-99, to lugnet.build)

I have half a mind to build a LEGO-compatible 9V battery holder just to try some tiny vehicle designs. Without an RCX you can't make it do much, but it would still be really fun to build small Technic models powered by a 9V battery and a micromotor. (...) (...) It took 3-4 months off and on (mostly off) to redesign the internal structure. This really shows how strong the stud/hole connection is and how close the tolerances are to do this. Minifigs can pass thru the central corridor (you can see all (...) (25 years ago, 4-Aug-99, to lugnet.build)
