Looks like a big cat of some kind...

With Halo 2 fast approaching (so quickly, in fact, that I'm hopping in the car once I'm done typing this), I decided to rebuild my pathetic Lego Warthog. I tried to be as accurate as possible this time, though I'm not entirely happy with the (...) (20 years ago, 9-Nov-04, to lugnet.announce.moc, lugnet.space, FTX)

Pretty nifty moc. I've seen other renditions of this vehicle but this far is my fav and I don't even play the game. For 4-wheeled shootin action, I'm all about Jackal. F (20 years ago, 10-Nov-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

(...) This thing looks SWEET! Puts my Warthog for shame. It's good to see a fellow Halo fan on the boards. I really like your solution for independent suspension. Now if only LEGO made a good windshield piece for this thing. ;-) -Alex (20 years ago, 10-Nov-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

(...) Puma! Mwahahaha! I'm not sure if people will get this one though. Maybe Donut or Caboose could explain it to them :-D Oh, by the way, nice 'hog. I'm preparing the buil;d of my one warthog, but in a technic scale. With the proper (...) (20 years ago, 10-Nov-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: Looks like a big cat of some kind...

(...) That's a great rendition of a Warthog. I like your use of slopes on the side, and the black minifig hands. Let's hope they release a transparent windscreen element in that sort of shape, it'd be a nice thing to have. Nice work! I look forward (...) (20 years ago, 11-Nov-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

(...) Oh man, I'll be waiting for that, as a Technic Warthog is something I could never build properly. Should be an impressive thing in the hands of someone who can actually pull it off. Thanks, -jeremiah- (20 years ago, 11-Nov-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: Looks like a big cat of some kind...

(...) Thanks Alex. It's always cool to see how many people share your intersecting hobbies, and it's even better when it results in cool mocs :) The suspension thing was pretty organic; if you watch the Warthog in action (or just flip one over and (...)   Re: Looks like a big cat of some kind...

(...) Thanks Fradel, that was my main goal with this moc. I've seen dozens of Lego 'Hogs, and each one seems to focus on a specific feature to the exclusion of the whole vehicle. I like to think that this one gets more right than the rest, but I can (...) (20 years ago, 11-Nov-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: Looks like a big cat of some kind...

(...) Thanks Paul, and I agree about the windshield thing. That was one of the hardest parts of designing this beast - I came close to sculpting one with clear plates, but luckily I found that this part combo works fairly well. An odd-width angled (...) Awesome Warthog! One quibble - shouldn't the Puma's "teeth" be white, instead of pearl silver? Any chance for instructions? I'd love to build one of my own! Well, I'm off to the store for some elbow grease... -Stefan- (20 years ago, 12-Nov-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: Looks like a big cat of some kind...

(...) Hi Stefan, thanks for the kind comments. The teeth are a really light chrome in the game, so I had a tough choice between the two. I ended up going with the pearl simply because the white teeth were too much contrast and looked odd with the (...) (20 years ago, 12-Nov-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: Looks like a big cat of some kind...

I've only played Halo once, so I'm not as familiar with the original model as I should be, but as a standalone moc this is beautiful. The angled armor plating, use of slopes, and general accuracy to minifig scale are all details that lend to this (...) (20 years ago, 12-Nov-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)
