Cancelations that come from NNTP go through the same authentication process as posts (in fact, in a minor bug, it actually appears like you are being asked to authenticate a posting, when actually you're authenticating a cancelation, if you (...)   Deletions (was Re: Can't connect to NNTP server

(...) Well, that's not *precisely* true, I don't believe. First, I don't believe you've EVER been able to do edits of posts here, no matter how they were originated. Only cancels. Second, there is more than one way to do deletions other than issuing (...) (21 years ago, 1-Feb-04, to lugnet.admin.nntp)

Re: Can't connect to NNTP server

(...) You mean NNTP? Or "G'day"? ;] Just about since ever for the latter. But it doesn't sound at all like the Auzzie version. It's a contracted "Good Day" but the "day" has a long a-sound, unlike for Auzzies (which is more of a long i-sound, (...) (21 years ago, 1-Feb-04, to lugnet.admin.nntp)

  Can't connect to NNTP server

G'day, For some reason I am unable to connect to the NNTP server, assuming its address is still lugnet.com (note, I haven't tried using the NNTP server in years). I keep getting the following message from Agent: "Connection refused by server (...) (21 years ago, 1-Feb-04, to lugnet.admin.nntp)

Re: annoyingly repetitive test of whether posting works

(...) I'm really sorry about that. I've got a script that runs once a minute and checks whether xinetd is running, and if it finds that it isn't, it restarts it. I installed this a couple months ago when we had the massive NNTP traffic -- it was (...) (21 years ago, 23-Dec-03, to lugnet.admin.general, lugnet.admin.nntp)

  Outlook Express problem

Hi all, Not sure this is the right newsgroup but I hope someone can help me with this. I'm just after installing WinXP Pro after using 98SE for some time.   Messages taking a long time to appear

I wonder why it is that this post of mine: (URL) is dated 17 Nov in the web interface, only just TODAY showed up in my newsreader? This happens regularly with messages in the .market hierarchy. Is there something strange about that particular (...) (21 years ago, 2-Dec-03, to lugnet.admin.nntp)

  Re: Message awaiting authentication

I don't want to use the web client. It's clunky. With NNTP, I can read posts offline, choose my NNTP client (thus finding a UI that is right for me), etc. Thanks for the info though. Now I know that throwing $10 at lugnet won't fix the problem. I (...) (21 years ago, 26-Nov-03, to lugnet.faq, lugnet.admin.suggestions, lugnet.admin.nntp)
