Well, that's not *precisely* true, I don't believe.
First, I don't believe you've EVER been able to do edits of posts here, no
matter how they were originated. Only cancels.
Second, there is more than one way to do deletions other than issuing a cancel
from nntp for an nntp originated post
Another way to do deletions is to send a note requesting the deletion to someone
that can delete it for you. Your note should specify unambiguously what post you
want deleted (the web URL is a good way to so specify it) and should pretty
clearly be from you (1),
2 years ago the people that I knew could do deletions for you included Todd and
Suz. There may have been others but I don't know who they were.
Today, the people that I know can do deletions for you include Todd, Frank Filz,
and myself.
Hope that helps.
1 - coming from the same email addy as the one associated with the post is
usually a good approach (2)
2 - these can be spoofed. So cancels are not permanent, they can be undone. If
you, as the author of a post, notice that it's been cancelled and you did not
request that, it's a pretty serious matter. Please let the appropriate people
know about it!
