Re: Virtual cookies (was: Re: Editing Member Pages & Netscape)

(...) You rock. Guess i have to stop using "ToddIsAWeenie" as my password now. :-) (1) Can you let it check for a cookie on the machine first, and if present, use that (a particular machine may have different details such as org, for whatever (...)   Member benefits... ?

Hey Todd, In the past few weeks I've seen a couple of new benefits added to members, like password-changing and member pages. The problem is, I was in a hurry when looking at them and didn't pay much attention, and now I can't remember the URLs for (...) (24 years ago, 13-Jun-00, to lugnet.admin.general, lugnet.people)

(...) Cool. Good thinking, both of you. Now, what can I do about a lost password? The member brochure is filed somewhere and I knew where it was before moving, but now I don't. Sincerely, Christopher Weeks (24 years ago, 13-Jun-00, to lugnet.admin.general, lugnet.people)

Random suggestion #2, which I think would actually be much more useful: I love the (...) (24 years ago, 24-Jul-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

(...) It actually does now (as of about 3-4 weeks ago) -- to make it go, sign in with your member ID+password and then fill out the forms (news posting setup, skip-filter, news-by-mail settings) and they'll be stored into your member record on the (...) (...) Seems like the standard approach. Here's a wrinkle to think about. You allow multiple passwords. So are you going to generate a new one and leave the old one in force? What if I have 4 already? On the other hand, if you get rid of the old one, (...) (24 years ago, 23-Jul-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

(...) I hoped you didn't plan to give a 404 or a blank page, what I was saying is that it would be annoying to be using someone else's page of links (because it's so complete) and always get a "lecture" page until you can convince them to fix it. Sounds like maybe you should automate it, and have a script-driven requester that takes the address of the user and then automatically sends the password to the registered address of the person. (...) Cool beans! I love this "ask for a feature to find out it's already been implemented" idea. :^D (...) That would be *most* cool. (...) There are, I think, two gotchas with this plan 1. There isn't really a concept of a "registered" email address, per se, that is associated with a user. A user can have multiple addresses. For instance, I have 3 listed on my member page: (URL) (...) (24 years ago, 21-Jul-00, to lugnet.admin.general)
