Re: It's almost like Mail Bombing...

(...) people who set their broken vacation/autoresponders, they reply to mail that is marked as "bulk". Not much we can do about it, except perhaps have Suz unsubscribe them until they get back... :/ Dan (23 years ago, 18-Aug-01, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: It's almost like Mail Bombing...

(...) The groups gated to mailing lists are the worst for this. (for example lugnet.robotics) There is not much to do about undeliverable mail as a person but I have a canned note saved that suggests that people ought to turn off their subscriptions (...)   It's almost like Mail Bombing...

Whenever I post to some groups I get hit with a barrage of "Out of the office" and "Undeliverable Mail" replies to my personal mail box. This is VERY annoying. Is there any way we can do something about this? Dean -- Dean Husby LUGNET Member #320 (...) (23 years ago, 18-Aug-01, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: Lazy web posting

(...) Sure, initially, but it'll fulfil *your* (sort of) wish. And when the page is to your liking, you can always ask the administrator (or curator) of .admin to put a link to it on the admin main page. I was just saying if you (or anyone) perceive (...)   Re: Lazy web posting

(...) Fail to see what good that would do the random shlub who shows up at the front door of LUGNET and wants to do administrativeish things. He won't know me from Adam and thus any pages I create won't be of any help to him (or her) ++Lar (23 years ago, 18-Aug-01, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: Lazy web posting

You're all geniuses, I say. I didn't find the box to check to save the info as a cookie, but other than that, it worked fine. Thanks Cary (...) ... (...) (23 years ago, 16-Aug-01, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: Lazy web posting

(...) You don't have to be logged in as a member. Just go through the posting setup process, and check the flag to save the info as a cookie. (It's been awhile, things may have changed (but I don't think they have)) Steve (23 years ago, 16-Aug-01, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: Lazy web posting

(...) (URL) probably ought to be linked from the front page. In fact I sort of wish there was a page of "handy links to various things that you are likely to want to do that are administrativeish". Heck, maybe there is, but I don't know where it is. (...) (23 years ago, 16-Aug-01, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: Lazy web posting

(...) yah, that all would be nice... actually, it _is_ nice :) I think that if you're logged in, you can run through the news setup again (or some sort of setup), and it'll remember all these things you mentioned. When I go to post on the web, I get (...) (23 years ago, 16-Aug-01, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Lazy web posting

Maybe this already exists, but I'd like to be even more lazy when posting using the web interface. Currently, I always get the "Before you post" page, to which I respond "Yes", then I get the message composition page, where I check a box again (...)   Posting Frequency, was Re: Et in Arcadia Lego - new MOCs

(...) I haven't been posting as much lately due to the increased noise in the group. It's getting better, but there has been a lot of non-space related posting going on. I usually just post via the web and stay logged on. No problems with (...) (23 years ago, 15-Aug-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Et in Arcadia Lego - new MOCs

(...) Yep. Basically the authentication thingy has cut way down on the number of "make a 'gee that's a nice MOC' comment" posts that I make. Now, I generally don't post unless I feel like I have something important (?) enough to say that it (...) (23 years ago, 15-Aug-01, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Et in Arcadia Lego - new MOCs

(...) This too crossed my mind, however - 1) i'm far too lazy to go look 2) my apathy is great. :) I would be inclined to say that it's more of a global slump - I would hope that people who thought strongly enough about the issue would have (...) (23 years ago, 15-Aug-01, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Et in Arcadia Lego - new MOCs

Re: Et in Arcadia Lego - new MOCs

Re: Et in Arcadia Lego - new MOCs

Maybe there could be some kind of user preference thing where you choose whether you want to authenticate messages or something? Though I don't know much about the Usenet network, so I really don't know how difficult it'd be to program that... (23 years ago, 14-Aug-01, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: Posting frequency...

well, 2 things 1) we have to trust Todd that if the auth hurts the site, he'll remove it. If it drives away posts then its not worth having, merely because someone once forged a few messages.   Re: Posting frequency...
