  Re: 8480 Technic Shuttles

(...) I don't think a consensus has been reached(1). I for one consider it an auction. However Todd has ruled that it isn't and that is sufficient. Under Lugnet T&C this post is OK for .b-s-t As much as I enjoy a good debate I don't see it as (...) (25 years ago, 1-Apr-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: 8480 Technic Shuttles

(...) I don't recall saying that. :-( I remember putting forth the argument that an OBO sale was mathematically equivalent to a sealed-bid auction. (Two names for the same function.) Sealed bid auctions belong in .auction, and OBO sales belong in (...) (25 years ago, 1-Apr-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: 8480 Technic Shuttles

(...) Let's try again. You say they're mathematically equivalent but sortable by how they're labeled (and treated) into one of the two groups. I say they're mathematically equivalent and therefore all belong in auction, regardless of label. (...) (25 years ago, 1-Apr-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: 8480 Technic Shuttles

(...) I'm OK with that if other people are. (...) It's a personal fault of mine, originating in part from a heavy math background where opinions traditionally count much less than logical argument and proofs. I hate saying "because I said so" and I (...) (25 years ago, 1-Apr-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: 8480 Technic Shuttles

(...) My interpretation of this is: an OBO sale is similar to a sealed bid auction EXCEPT a minimum price is set in an OBO sale. The absense of a minimum price makes an OBO sale automatically an auction. Sound reasonable? For the record, Lindsay's (...) (25 years ago, 2-Apr-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

  OBO vs. SBA

(...) That's still not quite it, no. I'm not saying that they're sortable into one of two groups simply by how they're labled, as if they were the same to begin with and naturally fall into one category or the other. Rather, I'm saying they're (...) (25 years ago, 2-Apr-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: 8480 Technic Shuttles

(...) I definitely agree on this. An auction is an auction, and I consider a sealed-bid-highest-offer-sale an AUCTION. It looks and quacks like an auction, it should be in .auction.   Re: 8480 Technic Shuttles

(...) Not really. Auctions have a Starting Bid, which can easily be set high enough to be a Minimum Price. (...) -- Tom Stangl ***(URL) Visual FAQ home ***(URL) Bay Area DSMs (25 years ago, 2-Apr-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Assembled Multitude: (...) I agree with Tom that OBO without a minimum and OBO with a minimum aren't different; however, I still think they're both fundamentally different from auctions in the eBay-esque sense. But they're also fundamentally (...) (25 years ago, 2-Apr-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: 8480 Technic Shuttles

(...) No, you've got it right -- OBOs do belong in .buy-sell-trade. Considering the best offer among multiple offers is a completely natural part of putting something up for sale or possible sale. SBAs belong in .auction. The two are similar in (...) (25 years ago, 2-Apr-00, to lugnet.admin.general) !

(...) auction, it (...) NO! Don't agree with me, please. I beg you. :-) This debate is OVER. Ignore Todd. It doesn't matter if he's right or not, its his game and he makes the rules and that is good enough for me and should be for everyone. But if (...)   Re: 8480 Technic Shuttles

(...) Hmm. In what way does the presense or absense of a minimum price make a difference? IMHO, only two things can make an OBO sale into an auction: 1. If the seller calls it an "auction" (i.e. "SBA" or "sealed-bid auction") rather than an OBO (...) (25 years ago, 2-Apr-00, to lugnet.admin.general)
