What about strategic rating? Eg. thinking that a post is worth 70, but giving
it 100 because someone else has already put it down to 40. This one is hard to
avoid as it is tempting!
I'm in the process of trying to create my personal rating schema (which doesn't
involve strategic rating), which is why I'm asking all these questions :)
If artificially boosting a rating in response to other peoples ratings (ie -
not giving your honest opinion) is frowned upon. Then is rating a post at '50',
to either raise its prominance, or lower something that you think has been
over-rated.. frowned upon also? Eg. I think the post that I'm replying to was
over-rated, but I have stopped myself from reacting and lowering it because I
didn't really have a strong opinion on it.. and I don't want to cast
'dishonest' votes - if I show an opinion then it should be because I believe
it, as opposed to because I want to counter someone else's opinion!
But is rating something at '50' showing any opinion other than 'this post is
average', and therefore is it a different (acceptable?) form of strategic
rating?
