Ya, Agreed.  At the time the "Brief" view-mode was conjured up, there were
relatively few messages going by with garbled line-endings, and it didn't
show up much at all.  People seem to be getting a lot more lazy these days
about cleaning up their line wraps on quoted paragraphs, maybe because the
full view hides their errors and they never notice.  Hmm.  I wonder if a
confirm/preview page on the web interface would help this as well as problems
of forgetting or forgetting to test links.  The preview would show the article
in a monospace font (not in the "All" view-mode of the web interface) but with
hyperlink-detection activated for testing prior to final posting.

(...) That'd be cool and very useful IMO. When you add it, can you also put the LUGNET header at the top of the "posted message, please use back button" page? Cheers, - jsproat (24 years ago, 24-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Todd: (...) If you want to be really nice, you can make the script generating the preview page check the URL's, and mark those that return an error status in a distinct colour. (...) Typical programmer answer. :-) Clearly it's not giving good results. But it's working as designed, so it's not a bug. It's a feature. Or a mis-feature.
