  Help with slow nntp response

I have been reading the LUGNET groups since their inception using Netscape's mail/newsreader client without any problems both at home and at work. However, for the last couple of weeks, it's taking an extremely long time for the newsreader to (...) (25 years ago, 19-Jan-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Help with slow nntp response

(...) Fast HTTP response, slow NNTP response. I bet if you can get new messages headers in an ng, then you can load a message fairly quickly just after that. I see this all the time. If I take too long reading a message, something times out and the (...) (25 years ago, 19-Jan-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

(...) Two minutes to make an NNTP connection? Wow, that's broken. Should be 1-3 seconds, tops. Hmmmm. (...) Did I say that?! I don't remember saying that. I don't understand TCP/IP deeply enough to make a statement like that. I wonder if the high (...) (25 years ago, 19-Jan-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Help with slow nntp response

And forgot to re-iterate the possibility of multiple issues. (...) (25 years ago, 19-Jan-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Help with slow nntp response

(...) Jeremy, what newsreader are you using and how are you launching an NNTP connection? What OS are you running? Do you see this from work and/or from home? Are you behind a firewall? What happens when you access the NNTP server from port 1119 or (...) (25 years ago, 19-Jan-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

(...) Netscape Communicator 4.7. I can open an NNTP connection by: - expanding the list of subscribed newsgroups - fetching the headers for any given newsgroup - opening a message - sending a message erm, I think that's all the daily situations that (...) I am having a similar problem. I read the news with Outlook Express on a cable modem connection through Time Warner (no fire wall). (...) Using Netscape 3.01 at work on an RS/6000 with AIX 4.1.5, behind a firewall, I do see some situations where a large number of messages in the group slows down processing. It can usually be tied to a getting the message headers for a group (...) (25 years ago, 20-Jan-00, to lugnet.admin.general)
