    .market.auction & crossposting —Todd Lehman
I'd like to improve the server's ability to automatically enforce the "no-auctions outside of auction groups" rule. Obviously the server can never do a foolproof job at this, but I think it can do a bit better than what it is doing currently, which (...) (25 years ago, 12-Dec-99, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: .market.auction & crossposting —Rose Regner
Can we also do something about auction and e-bay? Maybe market.auction and market.auction.e-bay? Just a suggestion.... Eric Todd Lehman wrote in message ... (...) (25 years ago, 12-Dec-99, to lugnet.admin.general)

(...) What about applying the rule to lugnet.market.buy-sell-trade as well? Julie (25 years ago, 12-Dec-99, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: .market.auction & crossposting —Larry Pieniazek
(...) I think this is a bad idea and the post I just did to market.auction is a prime example of why. At least *I* think it is. It is about an auction, but it's far more significant (at least I think it is) as something new in our little world than (...) (25 years ago, 12-Dec-99, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: .market.auction & crossposting —Todd Lehman
(...) Is what you did the only way to start such a discussion? For example, what about posting the actual auction announcement first in .market.auction (where it technically belongs, according to the T&C for discussion groups), then posting the (...)           Re: .market.auction & crossposting —Frank Filz
This is one of those "there are many sides to this issue" things. I think that Larry's intent is something that is reasonable. I also see the purpose of the "no auction announcements in groups which don't welcome them", with zero tolerance (...) (25 years ago, 12-Dec-99, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: .market.auction & crossposting —Todd Lehman
(...) IMHO, an announcement of a new auction site is different from an announcement of an auction. I don't see any problem with announcements of new auction sites (I mean real sites, of course, like Serious Collector, Mike's BRICKS, and other (...)       To the viewing audience: I'm sparring with Todd here in this particular instance because it's fun to see two pedants clash, not because I have some major beef... He's mostly right but you'll never get me to admit it. (...) Arguably it's not the only (...) (25 years ago, 13-Dec-99, to lugnet.admin.general)

(...) ~~~~ (...) I'm sorry, you've posted this to the wrong group. The marked word is clearly a pun, therefore this belongs in off-topic.pun.       (...) My opinion is with Todd on this one - it is a mild form of silicitation, I think. (...) Arguably, those people flog as well. Both themselves and others ;) (...)          Re: .market.auction & crossposting —Scott Arthur
(...) Larry, I really do think this does come down to opinion. It would have went down better with me if somebody else had noted it was "ground breaking", rather than you yourself.         Re: .market.auction & crossposting —James Brown
(...) Hmm. (hops across the fence for a second) This seems a bit like over-policing. There haven't been very many violations of the T&C in this area that I've noticed lately, so it is probably not necessary. I might be wrong, though - there's a lot (...)          Re: .market.auction & crossposting —Todd Lehman
(...) I don't think it's neccessarily necessary either, but it would save time & hassle & worry. Anything that the server itself can to do help is something that a human doesn't have to do. For example, it's not necessarily *necessary* that the (...) (25 years ago, 13-Dec-99, to lugnet.admin.general)
