P.S.  Todd you are doing a great job that is largely thankless. You are the
life blood of LUGNET, but you must realize that in that role you can not be
the common AFOL.

Imagine you built a big sand-pit for everyone to play in, and lo.. everyone
did. But then they started saying that you couldn't play in the same way as
everyone else, as they felt a bit funny about it. So all that was left for you
was to add some more sand occasionally and be on hand to give everyone cakes
and other treats.

This problem of perception is ours not Todds.

You mean create a fake identity?  Nah...

We'd see through that wouldn't we? Wouldn't we? *looks around in paranioa*

*starts pulling at Mikes hair.. Todd.. Todd.. is that you?*

He just needs to realize that without flashing disclaimers and
alarms going off, peole are going to read his words as having been
uttered by THE MAN.  And even with those things, they'll still carry
some of that.

And *we* need to realise that he may need to act as a normal FOL as well some
times - he's built us this lovely sand-pit - we owe him that at least.

Where's the fun if you can't have opinions and express them? I am pretty sure
that LUGNET was created to bring fans together rather than as a chance for Todd
to exercise sysadmin powers!

And posting from @visi.com or @javanet.com doesn't make even a tiny
bit of difference.  :)

It's obvious that (as usual) there has been more thought behind this than we
assumed! If Todd wants to have his say, then we should do what we can to make
sure that we don't confuse his 'fan' persona with his 'sysadmin' persona, and
also correct those who do get confused.

If this means checking his email address then personally it's a small price to
pay. It's not hard to remember that if it's not from lugnet.com then it's not
official!

Something for the FAQ?

Richard

I think a fan persona is JUST THE THING for making it clear that Todd is wearing his fannish hat. Suppose he posted from just_a_lego_fan@hotmail.com and signed as "Todd the LEGO FAN and not the adminstrator"... I think you'd get the idea. So I agree (...) (...) Heh, no. :) (...) Man, I must not have made myself clear. I don't mean Todd shouldn't express himself or his opinions as much as he wants. Mainly, what I'm trying to say is that Todd needs to understand that even if HE thinks he's coming (...) (25 years ago, 8-Dec-99, to lugnet.admin.general)
