I totally agree with Dan on the club's mission... but I think that club
members from the same or different clubs can use .train to discuss train club
stuff. After all it is all about LEGO trains. Would anyone object to a
conversation about how to get a club layout displayed at GATS? I personally
would like to read more about any kind of LEGO train topics.
Also here's some background (FYI)
When Todd started talking to me about LUGNET.Train it was going to be
LUGNET.PNLTC (or something club specific) and we lobbied that it should be a
generic train sub-group. So PNLTC had a discussion about using an open forum
for our daily comm channel. We agreed that although most of our threads could
be public, we have some show details... and other somewhat more person
relationship conversations, that we didn't feel were appropriate to be public.
Since we didn't want to have two places for PNLTC "business" that is always
threaded between other stuff anyway...we asked Todd for .trains and kept our
club's mail alias our main com channel. I think that new clubs could benefit
from reading ~20% or our stuff. The rest would be like listening in to a
private party line (a bunch of LEGO heads trading bricks and discussing who's
going to show up at the show to man the booth on Sat from 3:00 to 5:00 pm).
There are 5 to 15 messages a day sent thru the pntlc alias. We really do chat
a lot.
BTW if anyone wants info on starting a club or how to get your first gig... We
would be happy to help! Heck I'd even talk to someone on the phone if they
wanted. :D
