I am looking for tools to help with inventorying sets. The ultimate would of course be a custom ap which lets one search a parts database somehow. I have checked out the various parts references, and all of them except Jim Hughes' Technica involve (...) (26 years ago, 21-Mar-99, to lugnet.admin.database)

| | I've got lots of sets to inventory and possibly review
|
|
Having just gone wild after exiting my dark ages, I have 50 sets, and am willing to do inventories and reviews. My priority for inventories would be the sets which are not previously inventoried, and starting with the smaller sets. With that said, (...) (26 years ago, 19-Mar-99, to lugnet.admin.database)

(...) 12v Trains is two words. All three (9, 4.5, 12) are. The fact that a match on theme=Trains works at all is because the indices have not gotten cleaned up yet; most all items were first "themed" at Trains, with the secondary characteristic set (...) (...) Nope. The one value where I unintentionally typed an uppercase V (the first) has been fixed. Can't explain the second one. (...) I'm not sure I'm understanding here; Are you thinking that 4.5V Trains/Accessory Elements are linked to 1992 (?) (...) (26 years ago, 18-Mar-99, to lugnet.admin.database)

Looking at the 'themes browse' page (URL), I notice both 4.5V Trains and 4.5v Trains. Was this intentional? The two links under 4.5V Trains don't match the years shown on the browse page. Likewise the first link under 4.5v Trains. Actually, for all (...) (26 years ago, 18-Mar-99, to lugnet.admin.database)

Joshua, your reorg is great. but can you break up 12V trains into two words so that a search using theme=trains finds them all instead of just 9V and 4.5V? (26 years ago, 18-Mar-99, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.admin.database)

(...) Since inventories are typically written with one line per item, in a fixed column format, the approach you describe also achieves the coveted "doesn't fit in the given space" award. ;) I suppose it is helpful to remember that no single (...) (26 years ago, 18-Mar-99, to lugnet.admin.database)

I count minifigs as 1-piece things, and use this format to describe them: "Minifig with Red Legs, Black Hips, Red Arms, Black Hands and Diver Suit Patterned Red Torso, with Glasses and Headset Patterned Male Head" But I've seen that this is not so (...) [Rambling, unorganized discourse alert:] I originally started doing inventories because I pretty much throw all my parts into common parts bins and I thought one day I would like to reconstitute a particular set. To that end, I try to describe each (...) (26 years ago, 17-Mar-99, to lugnet.admin.database)

[I'm posting to lugnet.admin.database, because I didn't want to clutter lugnet.db.inv with discussion posts] How do most people handle parts with multiple pieces when inventorying sets? Examples are: - Minifigs or - Minifig Legs & Hips - Wheels - (...) (26 years ago, 17-Mar-99, to lugnet.admin.database)
