I had always been looking for the very first 1949 LEGO sets with plastic bricks, but the closest I ever got to was circa 1950... a year after the 1949 introduction of the LEGO brick (known as Automatic Binding Bricks until 1953). So Gary... Whilst at Valu Village, I picked up a red LEGO case. Turns out that it's set 356 Then I looked on LUGNET and there's no such set. What gives?? It's set 356, with 'bonus storage case', and it says it has 310 pcs. I think I remember seeing (...) (12 years ago, 24-Jan-13, to lugnet.general)

TLG could have made life easier for collectors... but there must be a little bit of Sadistic nature in their mindset... ;) Over the years they've produced a mind boggling amount of changes to so many sets. Well here's another unknown LEGO set (there's still plenty out there!).... It was purchased by a German acquaintance at a German auction, and is unlike any wooden box set I've seen before... very unusual. It has 24 compartments... which is the (...) (12 years ago, 10-Jan-13, to lugnet.general)

(...) Thanks for the info Dave! By the way, I was off by 1 year with Samsonite of Canada... it was 1986 that LEGO reverted back to TLG. 1973 - the year LEGO Terminated the Samsonite USA LEGO License... For those folks who like looking at old LEGO catalogs... there's a big gap in the the American LEGO catalog lists... more like a 2 year gap. In 1970 TLG started legal action to revoke (...)
