  Re: Worth the wait? (Yup!!!)

(...) Really? You truly believe that there would have been scads of folks going into cardiac arrest over the announcement that a toy is being re-released? Come on - it's not like we're talking about beanie babies or Star Wars action figures. On the (...) (23 years ago, 8-Jun-01, to lugnet.castle)

(...) No worries, it's back up now I am glad to say! I'm just off to have a look at the tower crane. I wouldn't worry overly about the pictures, it doesn't affect the enjoyment of the site or anything like that, I just get dead pedantic about such (...) (23 years ago, 7-Jun-01, to lugnet.technic)

  Re: Dead RCX

Completely dead? no response of any kind when you push the ON/OFF button? I ask because if battery power is off for too long, the firmware evaporates and the RCX is pretty non -responsive. But the LCD is not blank. If this is the case, download the (...) (23 years ago, 17-May-01, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

Hi all, In the course of doing my dissertation research in the last year, I had pause to visit the Royal Geographical Society archives to look through the files of Sir Charles Arden-Close, who headed both the Geographical Section, General Staff and (...) (...) The simplest way is to use a reed switch under the track to pick up the magnetic couplers. I haven't tried this method but it shouldn't give you any problems. Reed switches are a little hard to come by though (in my recent experience). The (...) (23 years ago, 6-Jun-01, to lugnet.trains)

(...) Why shouldn't it be possible? Actually I only know the spirals of Jan, a friend of mine, who built them for 12V track. But they are far to big, to get them on most tables. With an increase of one brick per 16 studs of track, all the 12V (...) (25 years ago, 9-Feb-00, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Custom Firmware, IR Problems, and Dead RCXs (long)

Another way of working around the high power and range problems would be an IR repeater. Usually these are used to extend the range of IR remote controls to another room or to a stage. (URL) two-way device might be needed here -- I've also seen some (...) (23 years ago, 30-May-01, to lugnet.robotics)

In lugnet.robotics, Matthias Jetleb writes: <snip...> (...) One important point that I haven't seen mentioned here is that the RCX AC adaptor input is labelled "9-12V~", which is AC, not DC. (...) Gee, could you tell I don't have a block diagram of the innards of the RCX? 95% of the work I've done with microcontrollers has been based on the MC68HC705J1A, J2A and K1 series (mainly because that's what I have the development tools for). I just assumed that the RMS vs Peak value of an AC transformer and the subsequent consequences for the tower were so obvious that anyone with an electronics background would have pointed it out, and since you didn't, I figured you must (...) (...) For what it's worth, it's not actually that bad. I don't know the specs on the NPN transistor, but I suspect 1.14A would kill it almost instantaneously. I'm hard pressed to understand why one would need to continually transmit from either the RCX or the tower? Data logging comes to mind, but there aren't many cases where there is a need for this. Listening can, of course, be done continously. The (...) (23 years ago, 29-May-01, to lugnet.robotics)
