Re: More Speed? Re: Mindstorms 3.0 Wish List

(...) Your understanding is correct. So why doesn't everybody use BrickOS? There are at least two reasons that I am aware of: 1. Many people, especially "non-programmers" find a full-blown C++ implementation to be intimidating and non-user-friendly. (...) (21 years ago, 5-Nov-03, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: RIS 2.0 USB Tower on a Mac

(...) As long as you are using OS X you'll be fine. NQC includes its own driver code for working with the USB tower under OS X. For Mac OS 9.x you'll need to install a driver from Lego. You'll also need to download firmware to the RCX. MacNQC can (...) (21 years ago, 6-Nov-03, to lugnet.robotics)

You don't need to program the RCX to use it with the MindStorms remote, but you do need to download the firmware into the RCX before it will recognize the remote commands. When you first take the RCX out (...) (21 years ago, 17-Nov-03, to lugnet.robotics, FTX)

(...) ---...--->snip I've not had the time yet to analyze the patch. Seems that you replace the first firmware handler. In Robolab the firmware is found under ..ROBOLAB\Engine\RCX1\Text.   Re: rcx unit

You need a computer and either a serial or USB IR tower to download the firmware into the RCX unit before it will respond to the remote control. If all you want to do is drive the motor outputs, you don't need any programming. Also, it doesn't have (...) (21 years ago, 17-Nov-03, to lugnet.robotics)

Following up from my earlier post, I have completed a firmware patch for the rotation sensors. This post contains the patch with installation instructions followed by a technical description. Thanks for the response. (...) It seems to me it's a design flaw in the entire method of counting rotations, which relies on the theoretical ideal of "instantaneous" voltage changes, which can't be produced.
