Thanks to many people (Roger Hamlett and Philippe Possemiers among other), I now have a short VB program that can send message to the RCX using the IR tower. I give you the code for your use. Focus/Do It All have some flat boxes, unfortunately you will probably need a number of them as they only have approx 15 compartments. I got all my mindstorms/technic in three and a small tool box.
