As Huw says, the black piece of plastic, that prevents the spring from dropping into the clear cylinder, breaks up. This renders the damper completely useless. The Scout will work with the standard light sensor. The Scout inputs float at 5 volts (presumably an internal pull up resistor), and when a touch sensor is depressed, drop to about 0.30 volts....pretty standard sinking input logic. With the light (...) (25 years ago, 15-Nov-99, to lugnet.robotics)
