  Re: Lego mentioned on Slashdot

(...) Well, after reading the part that DID inspire the post (the few geeks debating the trademark) I decided to go back and grab the url for the entire thread, thinking some people might not be familiar with Slashdot and not be able to find the (...) (25 years ago, 30-Jul-99, to lugnet.general)

Re: RIS version 1.5 coming this fall

(...) Certainly they chose to allow firmware downloads to allow for future upgrades. For a new RCX, if they really wanted to prevent us from writing new firmware, the best solution, and one we could not defeat without extraordinary means, would be (...)   Re: why is no-one saying anything about my parts?

(...) Not to rag on Jonathan any more, but since writing in all caps is considered shouting and therefore rude, is writing in all small letters considered whispering and therefore rude? If the connotation of the text is to grab attention, why would (...) (25 years ago, 30-Jul-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: RIS version 1.5 coming this fall

(...) Sorry, I was (accidentally) spreading FUD. Didn't occur to me that taking the batteries out would reset it. I assumed that "firmware" really meant firmware. --Todd (25 years ago, 30-Jul-99, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) Seriously? OK, whew! Then I *was* just being paranoid. I'll cross my fingers then and hope that 1.5 also has this property. (...) Amazing. Excellent. All is well with 1.0 then! (Whew!) --Todd (25 years ago, 30-Jul-99, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Why 5 to 6?

It's only a guess but perhaps they picked that sort of ratio to make sure that it would be easier for small kids to play with them - having a 1-1 ratio might be more confusing for kiddies who are just about getting old enough to work out which way (...) Okay, I'll bite -- how do you get 7/6 to be anywhere close to SQRT(3)? 7/6 is 1.167, and SQRT(3) is 1.732. Is there an additional 2:3 ratio hidden inside the "8880 transmission"? Also, I'm having a little trouble figuring out how the transmission (...) (25 years ago, 29-Jul-99, to lugnet.build)

RE: MN FIRST Lego League page

The MPEG section is pretty cool. A wide variety of solutions to the same challenge. Robots with touch sensors, light sensors, robots with no sensors at all. "Kenny" and "Michel Dowling" are impressive no-sensor versions - they both drive a nice, (...) (25 years ago, 29-Jul-99, to lugnet.robotics)

RE: RIS version 1.5 coming this fall

(...) I hope I'm not missing something obvious, but surely you just take the batteries out? That's always got rid of the firmware pretty effectively for me. Surely no software can physically alter that? iain -- iainbarker@bigfoot.com Anything is (...) (25 years ago, 29-Jul-99, to lugnet.robotics)
