RE: Homing with the IR Tower

(...) The little lift truck in the 8062 Universal set has the same steering mechanism. Just use a standard steeing rack with the steering knuckles on opposite sides of the wheel. Sorry for the inept description, my lids are calling for dinner time.. (...) (25 years ago, 26-Jul-99, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: CyberMaster tracks (was Re: LEGO Lawn-mover)

The CyberMaster tracks do look cool, but you can build your own tracks out of "standard" LEGO Technic parts (and bigger than "the biggest LEGO has ever built").   Re: Homing with the IR Tower

(...) Have you seen the mars rover turn? If you have the parts for it, you could add a steering mechanism in the front wheels and another for the wheels in the back. Humm... that should make an interesting mechanical project :-) Laurentino Martins [ (...) (25 years ago, 26-Jul-99, to lugnet.robotics)

Wow, there really are people here!

Perhaps we should come up with something to discuss.... Any good sales around? I check a number of places quite frequently, but nothing major on sale now. KB does have some aquanauts on sale as well as the witch's windship and some diver sets.... (...) (25 years ago, 26-Jul-99, to lugnet.loc.us.oh.cle)

Re: Colon character ":" getting changed to ">"

(...) By "quote character" here I mean news-quoting rather than English text quoting. The two paragraphs above this one that I'm writing are "quoted" paragraphs from your message. The word "quoted" is in English quotes. Sorry about the ambiguity. (...) (25 years ago, 26-Jul-99, to lugnet.admin.general, lugnet.publish)

  Re: Interactive human-controlled bots

I haven't tried it myself, but I've heard that you can make your RCX program respond to three of the buttons on the RCX remote control. You can also (if you need more than three commands) use a second RCX as a remote control. I've run across a (...) (25 years ago, 26-Jul-99, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Mechanical question

This isn't an answer, but why not just make a three wheeled bot. You can place the third pivot wheel inside the radius of the two outer wheels, and you'll have a bot that turns in place. Most of my bots are of this design. Here is a crude ASCII (...) (25 years ago, 26-Jul-99, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Mechanical question

(...) [snip] (...) You are close here. Tank steering is often called "skid" steering because tank tracks are optimized for traction parallel to direction travelled and have little traction in a tangent direction. A look at the tread pattern will (...) (25 years ago, 26-Jul-99, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Homing with the IR Tower

(...) Maybe I did not phrase my problem clearly. It's better described in Jon Shemitz's recent post (URL). In my experience, wheels are more efficient than treads. Under the same load, my wheel-based design outrun my tread-based design. However, (...) (25 years ago, 26-Jul-99, to lugnet.robotics)

  Mechanical question

I've been puzzling over this one, and I still don't really understand it: Why can a bot with tank treads do a turn in place, while a bot with four wheels geared together so that the front and back wheels on each side always move together can not? My (...) (25 years ago, 26-Jul-99, to lugnet.robotics)
