And the red train door will be in the Ultimate Train Builders box (or
whatever it ends up being called). Several pairs in fact if I recall.

My memory says just one pair but it might be two. Perhaps someone else remembers
better than me.

Is the Ultimate Train Builders box something that was shown at Brickfest? I
could not attend so I'm out of the loop regarding any concrete information
about a Train Box.

Yes. LEGO worked with a group of AFOLs on a train set that is based solely on
fan designs. It's a big box of train-focused parts plus instructions for 30
different models. Those 30 plus 50 additional ones will also be available
individually on LEGO Factory.

Hi, Bryan,

Thanks for your post which shows the level of expectation for this upcoming
Factory Train product.  I think I need to clear up a misunderstanding regarding
the building instructions (also known as Building Guides).

I am with the group of AFOLs who worked on this train product.  The final
product is still being worked.  I can offer the following insight into the
current state for Building Guides as directed by LEGO(R) management on this
product:

- Paper building instructions for all 30 models, will not be available in
the UTB set. Methods for electronic distribution of LDD lxf files for
all 30 models are currently being investigated.

-------

Personally from me-- not from the team:

I hope the eventual solution will be satisfying and fulfill your ability to
build and enjoy all the train models.

Work on getting the final content wrapped around our train creations is still
in-progress.  It's a pretty cool train box with a lot of heart and soul poured
into it from we AFOL Train Fans and employees within The LEGO Group.  We really
challenged ourselves and inspired one another while we designed each train model
from the parts which were available to us.  I have been impressed by the level
of dedication and quality of creations by each AFOL and the LEGO-employees
working on this project. I hope you will enjoy the result of our efforts.

best regards,

James Mathis

James,

Yes, I'm quite excited about this box. And it fits in quite well with how I
build. I'm not a great "from scratch" builder. So I scan the galleries, find
something I like, generate part lists, then shakedown BrickLink for parts.

So I'm looking forward to the new box, new parts and new models to build.

It was discussed at BrickFest but since I wasn't there I can't say exactly
report what was stated.  To the best of my knowledge, the UTB should be
available in March I think.  Here are some links to information which was
shared at BF:

Replying to my own post ... the discussion of the Hobby Train starts at
around the 39 minute mark of the keynote.

I am almost positive it is 2 pair.  Hard to build some of those passenger
coaches with out 2 pair of doors!

Hi all,

at TSL in Berlin 2006 Tim and I showed your designs which we build with the parts from the train box. And yes 2 pairs of red train doors are included.

Here is my “croco-engine”:

BS gallery

This is just one of many many possibilities which could be build with this set.

I’d love to see a worldwide building contest when the set is released. Would be nice to see what else could be build only using the pieces of that box?

I spent a day looking at that model and I still couldn’t remember it had two sets of doors... I feel stupid.

Holger - thanks for sharing the image. It really shows off what you can do
with UTB. I'm glad the decision makers chose to go with red/blue/gray.

I assume the fronts on the middle section are SNOT fronts and not the single
piece train front (red) from 4563 and the new RC cargo train (green)?

Bryan - you are correct.  The train front is NOT one of the elements in the
UTB box.

Hi Brian,

Just to clarify the box is red/white/shades with a smattering of dark red. I
don't think there is any blue in it.
