Greetings All,

I've built a functional LEGO knitting machine.  The thing works remarkably well
and has yet to drop a stitch.  Pictures can be found at:

and video is at:

I'm just mesmerized by this thing and hope you enjoy it.

Tom

(...) <snip> (...) Marvellous. Did you base it on a similarly functioning machine? I haven't seen anything nearly as elegant in lego building before, and I am really glad I peeked outside the robotics newsgroups today! (19 years ago, 11-Jan-06, to lugnet.technic)

It looks remarkably simplistic yet elegant. I do have one very minor problem, however, with your javascript slideshow thingy. It tends to advance two frames, instead of one, could you please add conventional links like in a folder on brickshelf or (...) (19 years ago, 11-Jan-06, to lugnet.technic)

(...) Well done Tom. Great piece of work! Perhaps soon you will be able to wear the proceeds :-) I remember seeing a knitting machine where a carriage travelled about a metre back and forth. Is it possible to transfer the mechanism to a larger frame (...) (19 years ago, 11-Jan-06, to lugnet.technic)

Greetings, Thank you all for the compliments! There were a few questions posted and I'll try to answer them all here rather than individually. This machine is not directly modeled after a similar device. However, I learned a great deal about (...) (19 years ago, 12-Jan-06, to lugnet.technic)

(...) Wow! Just, Wow! I've been lurking here at lugnet for ages, but this one pulled me out of the woodwork and motivated me to sign up for posting. For some time, I've been noodling over how to do a knitting machine or a fully mechanical loom. (...) (19 years ago, 14-Jan-06, to lugnet.technic)

(...) Darn, you beat me to it. A knitting machine was the next Lego machine I was going to tackle. Fantastic work. Brilliant. Rob (19 years ago, 14-Jan-06, to lugnet.technic)
