Hello altogether!
Some may know me from many MINI Star Wars models. But todays post is a little
different. I recently watched some classic episodes of Battlestar Galactica, an
old SciFi series. I thought Id give it a try and build some BS Galactica
models, which I want to show you here. :-)
Just click on the images below:

Wow, those are great! Im going to build those tonight. My kids will love them.
Ive always loved the ships of Galactica, its good to see these minis. Any
thoughts about doing Cylon raiders?

Hey Chris,
Just saw these on Brickshelf. Outstanding! I especially love the Viper. I
agree with Kelly, all you need now is a Cylon Raider. Hmmm . . . puts on
thinking cap . . . mentally rummages through bin of plates . . . considers some
combinations Ill have to try when I get home . . .

Thank you for the comments Bruce and Kelly! Youre right, a Cylon Raider there
must be. ;-) I will give it a try!

Wicked cool!
I am a big fan of the look (if not the writing, and acting) of the old BG and
the viper especially is amazing. The use of the screwdriver for a laser cannon
... mounted with the clip... just fantastic!
Gotta go make one, thanks for the complete instructions!

Neat models! My students already do the Star Wars minis in CAD; gotta show them
your BG minis too..
Darrell
ps I know its kind of cheating, and Im not sure about the scale, but couldnt
you use one of these hand pieces (in bley if it was available) for the cylon
raiders? Lots of connection points out back for thrusters.. ;)

Hello and thanks for the comment! :-)
I am already working on a raider but I find the shape which is elliptic very
hard. I have several drafts and still try to find the perfect solution. :-)

Hello Darrell!
Thanks for the praises!
I dont think using Bionicle pieces is cheating. Admitted, I dont like Bionicle
and I think these prefabricated huge form parts are not what we would like to
see, but sometimes, these just provide the shape you need. I already did this
before, when I designed the Chiss Clawcraft:
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=1351351
The Bionicle part was the best solution for the claws. I already browsed the
Bionicle parts catalogue but seem to have missed you hand part. I will see what
I can come up with. Thanks for the hint!
PS: How do your students (what students) use my Star Wars MINIs? I would have
all CAD files. ;-)
Cheers,
Chris

Hi Chris!
Love the Viper! And everyone is already wanting you to do a Cylon Raider - Id
like to see you build the other peripheral ships of the ragtag fleet.
And while you are at it, how about a Space:1999 Eagle and Hawk:-) ?

The Chief approves.
Im trying out some different color schemes. So far this is my favorite one:
Awesome work, Legostein!

Very cool, Ryan! Dark green would look nice, too. :-)

Hello again!
I thought about further models of the series, and decided that the classci
series is much better than the nre remake. Hence Id like to only do ships of
the claasic series. I finally have a layout for the Cylon Raider, which I am
only waiting for one part ordered.
Unfortunately we dont know many other ships from the classic series. There are
a few, like the Tiger-class Destroyers, a colonial shuttle, and some transport
ships. As for the cylons, there is that huge starbase and gunboat which are more
or less dish-shaped, and rather boring designs.
So, these are my thoughts. Any other thoughts? ;-)

Well, although I like the new series, and the updated designs, at micro scale
the differences are indistinguishable, for the most part (except maybe the Cylon
raider).

Hmm, I cant think of anything that would be iconic enough to portray in the BSG
universe. However, if youre open to Space:1999, the Eagle is a pretty
interesting ship as well, as Joe pointed out... :)

I always thought that there was a huge gun of some kind which was fired from
a planet, and could destroy entire ships, but only had a fixed aiming point
or line beyond which it could not target the ships. It almost got the BSG
and got quite a few ships destroyed.
There was also the final episode where the BSG goes up against a cylon death
star (I believe) and I seem to remember this being two large flattened cones
joined together at a point some distance before the tips, but with the bases
of the cones elevated towards the centre of the cone's base, instead of
flat, making it look rather like one of those preschool rubber sponges on a
plastic stick, that one used to do decoration and drawing with.
You might also want to consider doing hangar deck vignettes or small scenes,
it was interesting to note that the colony ships got launched through a
passageway lit with a series of lights. That might be interesting to
recreate, as would the main control console of the BSG itself.
Cheers ...
