So...

Haven't quite caught up on my sleep, but that's okay!

It was a great show!

(see some pics
here--http://www.flickr.com/photos/sparky1701/sets/72157628058893061/)

I really need to thank everyone who showed up!  You guys made the display
fantastic!  I heard so many great things from the visitors and the organizers!

Thanks to Isaac (and his dad), Nick, Joel, Kevin, Janey, Iain, Bill, Oliver,
Jeff, Derek, and Chris--first, you guys make it easy to run an event like
this--you show up!  And you help, and you talk with people...

I didn't get too much of a chance to sit down and catch up (as usual), but I
really appreciate the efforts you guys made on behalf of our presentation.

As well, once again Janey covers all the stuff I forget every time!  Thanks
Janey!

If anyone wlse posts pictures to whatever image hosting site they're using,
please post links to this thread! (or e-mail me and I'll post the links!)

We're looking into expanding into other venues at this time so we'll be able to
get together for these type of shows more often.

Again, thanks to everyone!

(A little late...)

Hello everyone!

It's that time again when I procrastinated just a little too much regarding my
responsibilities to all of you in the LEGO building world!!

For that, I apologize.

The good bit is that I just got off the phone with the Christmas Train show
organizers and they are lookign forward to our display this year!

I've asked for additional space because I've been led to believe that we'll have
more people displaying this year!

So with much further ado, here's the info--

Toronto Christmas Train Show

November 19th and 20th, 2011

International Center, 6900 Airport Road, Mississauga, Ontario

Hall 3

Open hours are 11 to 4 on Saturday, and from 10 until 3 on Sunday

Unloading/setting up will take place after 7 a.m. on Saturday.

WHat I will need from you--

Your name (and any helpers you may have)

How much table/display space you will need

If you require any electricity for your display

Please e-mail me--

dkoudys AT shaw DOT ca

Pass this along to anyone who may be interested.

I'll be posting to the Brickfete website, but feel free to post elsewhere.

Looking forward to seeing you in November!

my sister is a life coach and writes an inspiring blog, true bliss coach, mostly about changing your life through simple steps and appreciating the life you’ve got. her newest subject is a brand new afol, my 80-year-mother, who has just started to put some bricks together. she has always been fascinated by the brick and loves to look at what the community can put together, she and my sister are my biggest cheerleaders.

i decided to bring her a set to put together this summer. she took to it like a duck to water, and i’ve brought more than one set over. she’s absolutely thrilled to show off her handiwork to family and friends. one day i might convince her to take them apart and try a moc but for now, she’s just happy following instructions.

check out my favourite blog posting ever - like daughter, like mother.

lol, I was just going thru these pictures on flickr when this email came in.

It is great that you and others got pics up and I will be looking for more over
the coming weeks.

Dave, it is especially nice to see the free build outside as I saw none of it.

I did get video of the displays inside which I shared with family today.
As soon as I get a chance I will burn a copy and mail it up to Janey so you can
see things in motion including most of Dirty Brickster.
No doubt replays of some of those awesome moves there will have you prepared for
next year.

The show was such a good time thanks so much everyone.

It really was so great to meet so many wonderful people.  Lego fans and their
support staff alike.

Jeff

Brickfete was fantastic! I'm still pumped and haven't come down from that
high!

The 4 days flew by waaay too quickly!

So here's some things--

First, pics--

http://www.flickr.com/photos/sparky1701/collections/72157627335538192/

I didn't take as many pictures as I wanted, but lack of time and energy. The
good bit is there were lots of photo-bugs there and I'm sure more pics'll show
up.

Second, the public day--

Fantastic! I was out in the free build area for the most part of the day and
aw
kids and adults just building and playing. Some folks stayed a few minutes
whilst some were there for hours. I find nothing brings all ages and all
everything else together like big bins o' lego.

Third, the events--

I only partook in Dirty Brickster (thanks Jen!). OMG!!! That was exceptionally
fun! I watched (some) of the other events and those that partook thoroughly
enjoyed (from what I could see)

fourth, the builds--

I walked around and was blown away by the extremely high quality MOCs present.
From the huge twin towers to the small mosaics--it was very apparent that love
and committment to the hobby went into them all

saving he best to last-- the people--

Once again hanging with fellow fans of the brick is great. Doing it at a fest
is better. Having almost all my close LEGO friends at one spot for 4
DAYS--priceless!!!!

Thanks Jim for being there and putting up with us 'fanboys' Abner, Steve and
the rest of the US contingent for being Canadian for 4 days and using 'funny
money'

The QueLUG fans (that, up to this weekend I had no clue about) thanks for
coming
and making the event so much more fun! Marc--we'll hang out more for sure!

I'm forgertting a great many pepole here, but i'm still catching up on sleep

Jen and Jeff, thanks for remainging the steadfast friends that I've always
had.
It's more appreciated than you can know.

Chris, the strong back of Brickfete 2011--you did so much for the show, but
you
did so much for me personally--thanks

And Janey--you rock girl! I can't say more without getting misty eyed so I'll
leave it there.

To all the participants, thanks for being there and putting up with so many
'Daveisms' I loved beingf with all of you. I want to do more with you.

Here's looking at Brickfete 2012

oh it’ll be there--whether that’ll be as complete as the space station remains to be seen, but it’ll make an appearance...

Dave K

My hope is to actually get all my WIP’s or POC’s in the layout.

There’s the Lifelites--

http://www.flickr.com/photos/sparky1701/sets/72157624393783413/

The aforementioned engineering bay--

http://www.flickr.com/photos/sparky1701/sets/72157624469290835/

The new space station--

http://www.flickr.com/photos/sparky1701/sets/72157626427400060/

And my shuttle transfer robot arm (which doesn’t have any good pics on Flickr, but there are a few YouTube vids--no access from work so can’t post the links...)

And I have to revamp the big crater--it’s been through much over the past bunch of shows and is really looking beat up

http://www.flickr.com/photos/sparky1701/4815062007/in/set-72157624551572338

that’s 5 major builds to complete and just over a month to do them. Right now my priority is flash over function--moving and programming bits are going to be regulated to the back burner...

That’ll leave surprises for future shows! :)

At this point the only thing that I can guarantee will be functional is the repair bay--‘cause that’s always worked for every show. Surprising actually.

Repair bay--

http://www.flickr.com/photos/sparky1701/4819184534/in/set-72157624435110307

When I became (re)interested in CS, I started a (very vague) plan as to where I wanted to go with it. All my WIP’s, all my POC’s, were kinda leading to the layout that should be at Brickfete.

My problem right now is that I can see the finish line, and now I’m rushing a bit... Too much to do and not enuf time. Just looking at the list above, I know I won’t be able to complete the whole list. So I’ll just make it look good... because i say it’s better to rook good tan to feel good... and you rook mahvelous... absorutely mahvelous

So there you are.

Is amazing, out of all the parts 'n pices I have, I'm stunned on what I don't
have.

As well, my memory is so bad--I knew the direction I wanted the station to go
for the past year or so, so when I placed BL orders, I made sure to include
parts 'n pices that I would use for it.

Of course, since I wasn't actively working on teh station until relatively
recently, the BL orders, when I received them, got placed into storage with full
intention of remembering that I had them in storage (storage being a euphemism
here--put in convenient-at-the-time containers and promptly forgot about)

So it was about 10 last night that, after placing a bunch more Bl orders to get
the parts I needed to finish the thing, I stumbled across a bin full of, well,
pieces that I just ordered!  Still neatly sorted in ziplocks right from BL
stores.

Nice.

Anywho, I have some more parts 'n pieces en route, which should make the station
at least have the appearance of being complete (from a distance...)
