(Sorry for the wide distribution, but I didn't want to miss anyone who might be
interested. Follow-ups set to lugnet.org.us.nelug)
NELUG will be having its next meeting on Monday, December 18, at Bison County
BBQ in Waltham, Massachusetts. The room is reserved for 7:30 pm, but as usual,
I'll be willing to bet that members will begin the evening earlier than that by
doing a little shopping at The Construction Site (www.constructiontoys.com)
which is right across the street. Directions to TCS are available on their
website, including getting there by public transportation.
Topics for discussion will most likely include:
1) The recent train show
2) Planning for the upcoming train show in March-April
3) The next BrikWars event
4) Holiday shopping
5) Anything and everything, LEGO related and not.
I can personally guarantee that some of the constructions from the train show
will be on hand, so if you didn't see them at the show, you can see them at the
meeting. The room is nice and big, so you're encouraged to bring MOCs of all
sizes to display.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask them here.

Hi there,
I was wondering if your meetings were open to others or if it's a members
only thing? I'm sort of interested in meeting other AFOL, but don't want to
intrude. I live south of Boston, so you're the closest club to me.
I've also been to the Construction Site a few times so I'm not likely to get
lost (this time anyway, not like that first time...)
Thanks
Evil Wayne

That's pretty much the whole purpose of the club! You are, of course, welcome
to attend, and we'd love to actually count you as a member, too. Don't worry,
there aren't a whole lot of requirements for membership- we don't charge dues
or anything. Pretty much, attending the meeting makes you a member. :D
Hope to see you there!

Excellent!
Count me in. (I'm 99.44% sure I'll be there)
BTW, I've never been inside the restaurant, will it be obvious where to go?

Ah, yeah, it shouldn't be too hard to figure out. If you don't run into us at
TCS beforehand, or follow someone carrying LEGO into the restaurant, you can
always just tell the folks at Bison County you're part of the party in the
private room, and they'll show you what's what. They only have one private
room. And for futher reference, it's recerved under my name.

Usually we are around to the right as you go through the entrance. If you
don't see us right away just ask at the front desk. If you come over to TCS
before hand you will know who we are anyway.

Just in case we need a firm head count, it looks like I can definitely be
there. Don't know if I will bring any MOC's, mostly because its a PITA getting
them down off the shelf for the Shelf Railway.
Looking forward to it,

G'day Eric,
Would it be okay if a rogue Canadian joined your get-together?
I will be travelling home from Windsor/Detroit to New Brunswick
around that time. It's sort of on the way in the
not-for-normal-people sense :] It seems most of the names
I recognize from LUGNET are going to be there. It'd be cool
to meet people and put faces to email addys. Hopefully I've
not ticked off anyone there..., yet ;]

As I understand the maps, Waltham is pretty much on the side of
Boston. I might have a little bit of free time before
heading to the meeting. Is there anything interesting to go
see (in a short amount of time)? I should probably make the
mandatory-before-death pilgrimmage to "Cheers". Would that be
pretty time-consuming? Any other suggestions?
Also it would be nice if I could meet up with somebody before
the meeting, at TCS or wherever, so I don't feel like a total,
well..., bored Canadian lost in New England :] I'll probably
need help translating the scribings on the LEGO sets anyhow.
And I hear tales of the locals mugging outlanders for their
boots..., should I just stay in my car and drive fast until
the meeting? ;]
Oh, should I eat before going there or is the meeting in a
restaurant thingy?
Thanx,
KDJ

TCS is a great store, I dunno how much before the meeting people are going
there. It looks like I'll be getting in a few minutes before the meeting,
because as of now I'm being picked up from the Alewife T station by Patrick
Delahanty. My arrival depends on the Commuter Rail schedule... grrr. But
between now and then I'll try to get a car and drive in myself.
(translated - I really am coming on the commuter rail, because I never seem
to be able to snag a car)

Meeting-In-A-Restaurant-Thingy is correct.

Yup.

There's lots of stuff to do in Boston, it all depends on what your interests
are. There's the Museum of Fine Arts, the Children's Museum, the Computer
Museum, the Museum of Science; there's the whole Faniuel Hall/Quincy
Market/Freedom Trail historical thing (including Paul Revere's house); there's
the top of the John Hancock building, which I guess is kind of part of the
historical thing.

It all depends. First, make sure you go to the Bull & Finch Pub, which is
actually the bar Cheers is based on (*not* the place that is actually called
Cheers, which is a totally different place- I've never been there, so I don't
know what it's like). The B&F is rather small, and the food is overpriced, but
you don't need to worry about that, I guess, because the meeting is indeed in a
restaurant. Still, the B&F is cool to see, because even though the set of
Cheers is different- mostly bigger- it's pretty clearly the real-life version
of the same place.

Hmmm. Unfortunately, I'll be working during the day, but usually people start
turning up at TCS about half an hour early or so.
> should I just stay in my car and drive fast until

If you're going to drive your car in Boston... umm... oh, dear.
