a site would decide to shut down on
such short notice? (Kevin, I would
prefer you charge us for a subscription
so you don't have to worry about
bandwidth problems. Geekshelf is a
valuable resource to the anime community,
no matter the quality of the images hosted.)

Look, I'm just callin it like I see it. About a month after Geekshelf
started up it was flooded with what is, in my opinion, "poorly drawn anime
fan art". This is just my opinion and I'm sticking by it just as much as I
would a comment about beautiful art. (Yeah yeah if you don't have anything
nice to say..blah blah)
I file most of this stuff under the same "noise" category that I reserve for
Bionicle avatars. That's just how I see it. If you or anyone else sees all
the Sci-Fi creations (my particular brand of MOC) on Brickshelf in the same
way, be my guest.
I have not seen your art yet and I still can't becuase (you guessed it)
"This file is not yet public."
Regardless, I'm not giving a second thought to the loss of Geekshelf. It's
Brickshelf (and how we can possibly help it) that the LEGO community should
be concerned about.

I agree with Jon here. Most of the stuff on Geekshelf is of NO interest to
me whatsoever. If people want a free site to host their images, there's
plenty of those out there.
If Geekshelf is drawing upon resources for Brickshelf, then I don't want
Geekshelf! I would much rather support Brickshelf. After all, we are LEGO
fans here, not Anime!

Just to clear things up, I was referring to web hosting places: Geocities,
Angelfire, Tripod, etc. They have banners & ads, but they're free so you
can't complain.

I can. One of the greatest things about [Brick,Geek]Shelf is that you can
host *images* which can be linked to, and loaded from, your other sites.
Those free sites are great for small amounts of html and a few images, but
provide nothing close to the space one would like for, say, showing a
multi-day train show (or whatever the geekshelf equivalent would be.)
I'm sure there are free image-hosting sites out there. Anyone care to list
some good ones? I agree that many would find them useful.

The only problem is, someone has to pay for that. That's precisely why
services like this can't continue forever without some means of the user
paying -- be it through advertising or subscriptions, or they can't continue
(barring unique situations, donated bandwidth, wealthy webmaster...).
I'll refrain from giving my opinion about the sites in question though,
since I said I would refrain from doing so in the future. It's proven pointless.

NO this is horrible. Have you seen this girl on there, Serena
something-er-other. She's a hottie. And she posts some very nice pics, and
I've googled the hell out of it and can't find anything else of her. Oh and
by nice I mean "How-you-doin" nice. Geekshelf is the only place she seems
to be. I guess it was never meant to be. But seriously guys, check out
that folder, good stuff. Like sisqo said one million times too many... let
me see that thong-ta-thong-thong-thong! Ok I'm done now.

I agree that geekshelf has too much anime but I disagree that geekshelf is
not a valueable resource. I have used it to store images of my college work
so that it is easily accessable to my friends and family.

However, this service can not be expected to be free and I understand that
it may take away from brickshelf. Lugneters do have other interests which

IMO, this may be exactly why Geekshelf is folding. I truly regret the loss,
but for my own selfish purposes. I have an account (which I'm disabling in
chunks), and have used it in moderation, and with respect to the TOS. There
is stuff on Geekshelf which appears to have gone through the moderation
process without any attention to content-- babe pix, hentai (sexually
explicit anime), four-letter user names, labels and images... who needs it
there?
I disagree that the loss of Geekshelf is of no concern to Lugneters-- Lego
is not everyone's only pursuit. However, it seems to me that, indeed it was
too much of a good thing, and literally abused to death.
