Is it just me, or does the dark green look inconsistent in those photos? If it is like that for real, sorta inconsistent, then I’m really looking forward to this shade of green (even if it isn’t inconsitent, dk.green would still rock). I just love this time of year!

Jake made a comment that the released trains would have bricks formed of dark green, instead of having their dark green sprayed on. :) It’s just a prototype so far.

Jake also mentioned that, as a prototype, the stickers you see aren’t final.

Hehe.. spray paint. I was off and on my computer during the session, so I missed some parts of what Jake had said. Thanks for the info. :)

About the stickers: I hope they change the number of the engine, as #1013 is not supposed to be a GP, but a C44-9W. Check this out: http://www.trainpix.com/bnsf/ROSTER.HTM or even better http://www.trainpix.com/bnsf/GEORIG/C44-9W/1013.HTM

But I’ll buy this set anyway :-) //\ark “more BNSF” de Kock

It would be neat if they also provide a sticker sheet with more than one number for folks who want to run multiple units. They did that for the Super Chief and I thought that was a really cool extra detail they provided.

If they’ve already started printing #1013 sticker sheets I have a very simple solution to the problem... they can just save them and release a new C44-9W set in the near future :-)

Also, just curious which prototype folks think this new set most closely matches. I know it’s a GM EMD GP-something... GP38-2?

for example: http://www.trainpix.com/bnsf/EMDORIG/GP38-2/2359.HTM

Seeing this post brings tears of joy to my eyes, Mark!

GREAT (and well supported with a *specific* reference rather than some general self aggrandizing blather about why you know a lot about the topic) nitpick! Although, who cares really... it’s just a toy....

But I’ll buy this set anyway :-)

Me too, multiple copies I am sure! I just have to decide if it’s worth importing a bunch to save a few bucks...

   //\ark “more BNSF” de Kock

Right on!

As to the other comment about stickers and getting more than one, I agree, I hope they issue multiple numbers, and moreover, choose them so that if you slice them up you get lots of different possible values (1013 and 2348 for example give you, with one slice, many different number possibilities while 1013 and 1014 give you far fewer if you see what I mean)...

You know, this means a lot to me, coming from you. I always look up to you as some kind of master-of-lugnet ;-)

Well, I could explain why I know so much about BNSF, but that would probably bore eberyone else. Just imagine an N-scale modelrailroad, dedicated to the BN, the ATSF and the BNSF... And yeah, it is just a toy.

I’ll be more than happy to order some for you. I could even swap one for one of your custom locomotives?

One can only hope. But even with only one engine number available, I’m going to buy at least two. And next year: matching freight cars!

Hi Mark,

I guess I’m probably getting the context wrong here, but I have to ask: “matching freight cars”?

Do you mean the MOT freight cars, some of Larry’s custom cars, or have you heard something about some companion BNSF freight car sets coming out next year to go with this new locomotive?

Uh-oh. I hope I didn’t get your hopes up too high. I was only expressing my hopes. I do not know of any planned freight cars from TLC. But as is the case with the SuperChief: matching cars could very well be coming next year.

But like I said: I am only hoping.

The color inconsistency is due to some of the parts being spray painted.  A
few of the parts (1x10 plates, 2x4 plates, 4x6 plate that I noticed) were
real parts in the dsark grey, most of the rest (going from memory) were
painted.  One of the pieced you may not have noticed, is the 1x3x1 thin door
(http://guide.lugnet.com/partsref/search.cgi?q=3821) also in dark green.
There are two or three pair.  Other interesting parts are orange 2x4 45
degree slopes, orange airplane windows, dark green 2x3 and 2x4 medium
slopes, yellow 6x28 wagon plate, and many others.

I have some better close ups I took later in the evening I will post later.
We also got to run the train (in push mode) on the main line of the train
layout this evening - it looks good.  I certainly expect to buy several of
these once they are available.

Mike
