LDraw.org 2009-02 Parts Update Now Available

The 2009-02 LDraw parts update has been now been released.

This update includes 385 files in the core library, including 195 new parts, and
many more files updated with improvements for Back Face Culling support. A
further 8 parts have been redeveloped by authors who have affirmed the
Contributor Agreement, replacing files that were not redistributable.

Following substantial work by Scott Wardlaw and Willy Tschager the colour
configuration file has also been updated.

Thanks are due to all the authors and reviewers who contributed to this release.

You can preview the new parts in 2009-02 and download the update by going to
http://www.ldraw.org/library/updates.

There are still 251 certified files on the LDraw Parts Tracker, many of which
were held back from this update, following our normal practice of not releasing
new primitives or subparts until they are needed for an official part file.
There are another 1500+ files waiting for admin review, which I will tackle in
preparation for another release later this year.

This is great news! Thank you, Chris for your hard work on the release and Willy
and Scott for the work on the configuration file. The library is once again more
complete than what it previously was.

Why LDraw0801.exe is still an windows only file and not and zip ?

I find it hard for us macosx , NIX users to update or to install all ldraw from
zero since ldraw is nearly windows only software and badly mantained since
it doesn't have an zip or gzip update with all files since ldraw was created to
now .

I can acept the slow update release but not this unsuport towards us nix users,
Wnidows is not all windows is just shit that you get part of new pc and not a
choice unix is the root and future of computers.

I don't understand why you are even commenting on the LDraw0801.exe. This thread
is announcing 2009-02. Is the confusion that there is no link to the complete
zip archive in this article http://www.ldraw.org/Article519.html ?

If you go to http://www.ldraw.org/library/updates you should see a link to
download a zip archive of the update.

Also in the main download area at
http://www.ldraw.org/Downloads-req-viewdownload-cid-1.html there is a complete
zip archive of the library.

You posted a similar complaint when 2009-01 was issued
(http://news.lugnet.com/cad/?n=16201), to which there was what seemed like an
acceptable response.

3 have uncertified subfiles.

Something wrong?

Yes, there was - and I posted a message to that effect in the "Operational
Status" area on the Parts Tracker home page. It is fixed now and the message has
been removed - although the count of certified files has dropped to 212 !

It’s wonderful to see all these fabulous parts released! Thanks for all the hard work.

I am also very happy to see the TLG colors separated out into another reference file rather than being included in the official color list. That makes their role much less confusing and makes my life much easier.

But are all the TLG colors expected to have analogs in the official ldconfig.ldr? In a short random sampling of colors I didn’t recognize, I found a few that didn’t appear to be (TLG_Rose, TLG_Cobalt_Blue). I definitely want to make sure all of Lego’s colors are represented in LDraw (but I also want maintain a one-to-one correspondence between colors and !COLOUR directives).

Here’s how I install LDraw library parts updates:

It’s that easy - thanks, Travis! (Thanks also to Chris and all the part authors and reviewers, of course.)

Thanks for all the work,

Minor bug/inconvenience I noticed:

When unpacking the complete.zip it reports duplicate files namely (ldconfig.ldr
and ldcfgalt.ldr) while using winrar you can rename them and end up with both
versions, don't know what winzip or other unpackers do.

Hi Allen,

as pointed out here:

http://news.lugnet.com/cad/?n=16368

we based the chart mainly on BL and Peeron and only those colors have been
matched against the TLG colors. The complete list of colors which didn't make
into the file are listed on the wiki:

http://www.ldraw.org/wiki/index.php/LDConfig.ldr

It didn't make much sense to us create colors in LDraw which can be bought/build
in RL.

Thanks for clarifying, Willy. I had not understood from previous messages that some of Lego’s colors didn’t physically exist.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know why Lego is defining colors they haven’t actually produced?

For example, some colors have only been available to the Legoland builders,
never to the public.

My guess is that some are used for Stickers/Canvases/Textures.

There are another 1500+ files waiting for admin review, which I will tackle in
preparation for another release later this year.

I have a quick question about the 2009 Part Updates - As far as I can tell from
the description at LDraw.org and here the updates are cumulative (I need to
install 2009-1 and then 2009-2) However the names of both files are identical
and as a result if I try to download both one of two things happen:
1)the second download overwrites the first
2) my browser takes the download from the cache and consequently doesn't really
download the other file but re-downloads the one I already had.

If the files are cumulative, maybe they could be renamed to include the release
in the file name in the same way as has been done for 2008-01.

The Windows installer executables are not cumulative - they are the complete
library - hence "Use this link to download the Windows installer for the
complete library".

The zip archives are just the changes (new files and updates) - hence "Use this
link if you just want a zip version of the update".

There may be occasions when you want to download the complete install from a
particular release, so the names have now been changed. However, LDrawParts.exe
is still maintained as an alias to the latest complete installation.

Thanks for the clarification. I'll include it in the second part of the basic
