Ive always been a fan of space, but I never really managed to get down to doing
anything in the theme as of late as it was too abstract for me (Although I did a
lot of stuff as a kid, my memory and definition of what spaceyness was got wiped
out the day I saw Dans A-wing carrier, and the other ships hes built ;-) ). So
after a few words of wisdom from Felix Greco and others at JLUG, with a little
taunting by Adrian Drake thrown in for good measure, I present my first
publicly-displayed Space MOC:
(Click link post-mod)
Some Deep Links:
I hope these work later!
I was largely inspired by these two machines:

http://www.irfca.org/photos/TrackMntVehicles/Plasser_s
Comments, smack, acronyms, ascii art, more taunting and critique welcome. A word
about the critique though: Please try to be as clear as possible. If youre
going to tell me so-and-so doesnt look right or something ultra-vague like
that (and Ive noticed a lot of spacers do that), its not doing any good since
Im a pretty straightforward guy and I dont get your spacer abstractness. (Yes,
your spacer abstractness, because just one model doesnt really count as my
being a spacer, and I can say its more of a train model anyway.)
Enjoy,
Legoswami
PS: Expect an MOCPage in about 12 hours from now since Im going to bed. And
yes, I know my pieces need cleaning.

the gallery URL. Here it is:

Samarth,
I live the model, really fun. You managed to cature the train MOW quite well.
As for the dirty brick, I like it. It gives the ship character.

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Oh hey! right on! You built it! That is so cool, the color, the specs, the
realistic look.
I like the scale and the forward cab is really good.
Thanks for sharring.....
Questions
Will you keep this model?
What else might you build that will add to it, like what other kind of vehicle?
Can you send it to me so I can play with it?
thanks!

Thanks for the kind words, Eric! :-)

Not sure yet. If one of my higher-priority projects needs parts from it, maybe
not, although I think I've not used a single part I'm likely to need anytime
soon. I think it'll be around for a few months at least, if not longer.
> What else might you build that will add to it, like what other kind of vehicle?
I've been thinking about that. I was surprised at the number of industrial-type
parts my collection turned up in black and yellow. I may do a second similar
one, but I wouldn't do a space-train or something since a train that hovers
seems a bit cliched to me.
> Can you send it to me so I can play with it?
LOL I could do BI, but I think this is simple enough to build without
instructions :-) I need the parts! :-)
Thanks again!

Ok, I'll let you slide this time, lol.
I would encourage you to expand on this concept, I think it is very cool.

hey,
i love the model and the use of the technic pneumatic system but i really dont
see how this model belongs in .trains past the initial post. please trim .trains
from the newsgroups.
thanks,

Theres a reason: Its a theme bastardization. Its a Track Maintainance of Way
unit. See what it is inspired by as well.

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Hey Samarth!
This is one nice model! I especially like the multitude of details, also the
mechanized tools. I was thinking, maybe you can un-bastardize it and convert
it to a good old train. ;o)

You bet ;o) But for a space MOC it actually doesnt look that bad. It looks even
great.
Cheers,

Thanks for the kind words, Chris! I dont think un-bastardizing would be a good
idea since the novelty of the model IS the fact that it is a combo of train and
space. But I may do a stand-alone MOW later!
Thanks again!

Glad to have inspired another .space MOC in whatever way I can :)
This is rather a neat looking contraption. Though I question the necessity of a
track cleaner/fixer in world where hover-vehicles are apparently possible. But
bringing logic to the party hardly seems like fun now, does it?

Hi Adrian, thanks for the kind words. I imagine this craft to be maybe 100-200
years in the future, when Mag-Levs have replaced all but a few trains, and the
railnuts and historians are desprately trying to save the last, dying breed of
electrics ;-) To make the high-speed yet extremely dangerous (compared to the
mag-levs) trains safer, these vehicles are essential.
I cooked that up, of course :-) But backstories for space MOCs seem popular, eh?
Legoswami
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Quite sweet, this. Personally, I would say this belongs in both space and
trains, as it has a bit of both. Great detail, great moc. Im jealous of your
amount of replies, my posts never get any. :) Congrats on the first
spaceish model. -Josh
