The Pacific Northwest LEGO Train Club presents a Guinness world record
LEGO train track display at the Center House in Seattle Washington.
The show is open to the public on Friday and Saturday, August 18 and 19,
from 10am to 8pm, and on Sunday from 10am to 2pm.
The official record attempts and a press meeting, will begin at noon on
Saturday.
Any LUG or LTC member willing to help with crowd control, setup, operation,
etc. etc. is invited to attend and help out. The building will be open from
9am
to 9pm each day of the event and on Thursday the 17th. Please check in with
a PNLTC member when you arrive.

Once again, the PNTLC, the premier LEGO Train Club, does things bigger and
better...
Way to go PNTLC! Hope everthing goes smoothly this weekend, all us "train
geeks" are looking forward to pictures - and video!

Hi Dwayne.
I don't have any Train stuff, but I would be glad to come help out and/or
shoot some pics with my digital camera.
I'll probably shoot some pics anyway :^)

The Vancouver Lego CLub contingent (3 or 4 of us) will be there Friday
afternoon and all day Saturday, bringing track, rolling stock and
buildings, and willing to help.

You asked for pictures--you get pictures. The "train geeks"
have done it again--this time you'll be able to watch the show
"live" on the web. Point your browsers to
http://www.pnltc.org/webcam.htm and bookmark the site,
then check back whenever you get urge to know what's
happening.
Also, plans are being made to release a CD-ROM of the
event with tons of video, stills, and supporting materials.

I think that the web cam is pretty cool! I wish I could be there to help
out, but alas, I am stuck at work.
I wonder what the record is for longest layout that somebody has at their
residence... I know I won't qualify, as my layout isn't even put together.
Still, I would think that there has to be at least one AFOL with a large
basement/garage layout.

Lets put it this way, _nearly all_ my straight track is there, and it makes up
about 1/8th of the total track needed.
(I have 3 full straights, 4 electric cut ones (full), 2 half straights, 1 1/8th
striaght and 1 7/8th straight here left---pnltc has 504 straights)
I'm not sure, but I think that is the most that anyone has in a layout at home.
I also have 20 boxes of 4.5V track, about 15 are used for storage yards for
goods cars (completly full right now, with no 9V storage to keep the rest of
the trains on...)
Using my Track Designer layout, I had 983 pieces of track out before, in one of
the versions of my layout here. I'd think I have more than 1K pieces
(lengths+points) with the track as it is now.

I'm only 12, but if there's anything I could do, count me in. My dad has a
digital camera if you need it, but it looks like you've allready got that
coverd.
Also I have a whopping 4 or 5 pieces of monorail track I could bring if you
wanted me to bring it.

That's what, 48 or 64 boxes per case? If they'd give us a bulk discount
worth looking at, I'd want a case myself.

The ZNAP bridge is 22 feet long and is a true suspension bridge. The end
pieces are weighted with 20 pounds of pennies each! A big WOW to Wayne for
building this monster!

Well, I would just *have* to throw in another "me, too" to that one.
At 40" per box and 48 boxes per case, that is 160 feet per case. I would
definitely want to get about that much to make a really good switching yard.

One small 'nit' to pick: That's not a "suspension" bridge, it's actually
a "cable-stayed" bridge. Similar idea, but different implementations. A true
suspension bridge would have two (or four) main cables, with
vertical 'suspenders' between the main cables and the bridge deck. (I had to
check with a friend of mine who designs bridges for a living...)

It's certainly an impressive bridge - that has to be one of the longest, if
not THE longest, LEGO bridge I've ever seen!

I was there today on Friday and a good portion of the setup was complete.
Absolutely stunning display! You guys should've seen the CARTONS OF TUBS they
had... :)
