Actually I don't believe that is a completely new piece. It also appears in
the UCS Naboo fighter that was release last year. And don't worry there are
various colors of it in the Make-n-Create sets as well.

I'm hoping that that piece will be the equivalent of the "wedge 2x6x1 curved
top":

from last year.  I first saw it in the SW Cloud Car set, but it quickly
appeared in a variety of colors in Alpha Team, Racer, and many other sets
(it was especially all over the SW Ep 2 sets).

When this new piece (I think of it as the "twisty-brick") first appeared in
the SE Naboo SF, it was a little surprising, as LD is not able to create new
molds.  So it makes sense that it was a new piece in the works for the 2003
releases.

Where do you see it in the Make-n-Create sets?  I've looked through those
pics on Altered States but don't see any of the twisty-bricks?

Oh, one other thing.  In this picture:

I do see several of these "wedge 2x4 triple" pieces:

that were previously only in the Geonosian Fighter.

I think there is a real trend in the last couple of years for a larger
variety of slopes and curved slopes for sleeker shapes.  Great news for
anyone wanting to build any sort of vehicle.
