TLC's WW Matter (was Re: Death of lugnet.western?)

Hello again Ben,

Yes.....those are good reasons. And another thing, TLC has a pretty (how
should I say?) obvious problem when it comes to "ordinary life" in most
themes. Town has most of the "ordinary life" (or at least the old kits) but
many types of kit lines, such as Castle, Ninja, Pirates, Wild West, etc.
have almost always situations involving big millitary castles or with three
bandits taking on a fort of 12 troops with rifles or something like that.

In general, TLC doesn't really have a "wide range" of kits in certain themes
(if you know what I mean). That's quite disappointing, really. Also another
thing. TLC was not really using that much idea in Western kits. Here's the
TLC's basic story: A gang of three bandits rob a bank. The sherrif goes
after them and it winds up at a fort where they get in a big fight and the
sherriff is on a one to one with the gambler bandit with the green suit.
They play cards but the sherriff does the table trick and the bandits are
down. The end.

This is of course, my own opinion, but the general TLC storyline is cut out
like that. Good and evil (Knight's Kingdom, Wild West). I think they have
been overdoing a bit too much of that, don't you think?

All I have wrote is constructive critisism. Thank you.

Cheers (*clink*)

Dean

All right. Though I have not uploaded the changed town yet, I will tell you
a sneak peek about the new details.

I look forward to seeing your new town changes.  I like your farm as well.

What do you think made this board go almost kaput? Though I know it will be
obvious to say, "It lost its popularity because of the other successful
themes," but we need a better explanation. I think it lost its popularity
because......don't really know.

Thanks for your comments!

Several factors may have led to the "death" of lugnet.western.

First, TLC is no longer producing new western sets and has not been for
several years.  This eliminates talk about new sets, rumored sets, "I wish
they made a deathstar..." threads, etc.

Next, very few western moc's are being made.  This is similar to
lugnet.pirates and similar themes.  There are few diehard fans that
occasionally make a moc and a small discussion ensues.  People check
lugnet.western about as much as a lugnet.fabuland ;) because there are not
very many moc's.

Finally, western by its own name is a very exclusive theme.  Many moc's made
for .trains and .town are from similar time periods 1860's to 1890's but
they do not necessarily occur in the "wild west".  They are in larger cities
and towns.  (It would be nice if trainheads and others crossposted when it
is appropriate) Plus, the types of western sets are somewhat limited.  You
can only make so many general stores, banks, saloons, jails, and ranches.

These are my thoughts about lugnet.western.  Please feel free to respond,
add your thoughts, or disagree with my ideas.

Ben

(...) I would also like more "ordinary life" sets. But you have to look at the history of the company. They know what works. What I find amazing about TLC is how little things have changed in the last 25 years. For example new "NASA" sets are coming (...) (22 years ago, 16-May-03, to lugnet.western)
