Hi All,
Well its been a long road organizing ILTCO, but were finally there!
The organizing committee (OC) has been at it for 11 months, with about 2000
email messages on the OC list alone. Weve had several face-to-face meetings
and over 30 hours of conference calls! With that said we have discussed and
rediscused many topics exploring each from the perspective of new club - old
club, big club - small club, from the angle of how to govern to what
relationships to foster with other entities such as; NMRA, GATS, LEGO Direct
etc.
Our goal was not to have all the answers but to create a framework that can
accommodate and support different types of memberships, future decisions
about governing, and new relationships. We know that there will be holes
uncovered as we grow from zero members to the current breath of clubs out
there today and perhaps even more as we grow into the future. We ask that
members take an active role in participation and help strengthen the
organization. L-gauge is already an active and viable model railroading
alternative that you all have made that happen. Being organized will only
cement its position as one of the fastest growing model railroading
alternatives.
So what does this all mean...
Individual membership enrollment is now open! So please drop by
ILTCO and join now by clicking on the word and
JOIN found on the right side of
the page just below the gray horizontal menu bar. We encourage you (as
required by the membership application) to read the
Bylaws, Policies &
Procedures, and the Terms of Service. These
along with the FAQ will answer many questions you
may have. For further questions please ask your club representatives, they
have been through this process already. If you are not a club member and are
joining as an individual you may submit questions directly at
QandA@ILTCO.org.
Thanks for your patience and we hope that you would consider joining
the ILTCO.

Dear Mr President,
May I ask the follwing questions concerning the constitution of ILTCO?
1. You have a huge lot of Bylaws, Policies and Procedures and TOS to get through
during the joining procedure for a club who aims not to be bureaucratic. You have
much experience of setting up such clubs and societies, in your knowledge have
any of these legal devices ever been tested in a court? For an international
club isnt the application of Indiana State Law a bit restrictive? How does this
affect the legal rights of members outside the USA?
2. Your aims as stated are very laudable, but make no mention of
internationalising, or of bringing a world-wide community of L-Gauge model
railway enthusiasts together. Should the ILTCO be pro-active in reaching out to
those areas of the world where no LTCs currently exist and/or trying to bring
those LTCs which currently keep themselves to themselves into the ILTCO fold?
3. Your constitution (seems to) makes no provision for ensuring that no
particular grouping of individuals can take control of ILTCO. You may consider
that (a) restricting officers to one per LTC or (b) one per country and ensuring
that an officer cannot be succeeded by a member from the same LTC will go
someway to preventing this.
I hope you dont take exception to my posing these questions here.
Wishing the ILTCO every success in its endeavours.
My membership application is in the mail!!
Regards
Steven
