(...) What an interesting debate....personally I was a "townie" before ever buying a train set.....but I think that was due to financial considerations when I was younger..... now adays, my budget is more heavily spent on Trains.... and I should be (...) In lugnet.trains.org, Frank Filz writes: <snip well thought out post> Agreed. See also (URL) am on the "the layout is a stage to showcase the trains" side of the fence but can happily coexist with townies who just want to build buildings as long as (...) (...) But what J-2 *isn't* saying is that the first show for the new GMLTC layout is NOT a 'train show', it is a large Scandanavian Festival in Minot, North Dakota. We're building for the target audience! And even our 'town' sections will have two (...) (23 years ago, 13-Aug-01, to lugnet.trains.org)

Well, I wouldn't say we are anymore "town" centric than the next non-LEGO train club. I think a great club is made up of a good mix of town, landscape, and trains (with wheels) -iacs. I like the train aspect of it all but I do a bit of RCX stuff. I (...) (23 years ago, 10-Aug-01, to lugnet.trains.org)

(...) This isn't directly related to this discussion but it is relevant to what our club (VLC) is experiencing right now. Our club is a general club, not a train club. We have a few dedicated Train members (Myself included) and several people that (...) (23 years ago, 10-Aug-01, to lugnet.trains.org, lugnet.org.ca.vlc)

Point well taken James, but i think we should look at it another way also. Trains don't exist in a vacuum, the town and environs really set the time period and overall look of the entire layout. When non-train or lego buffs see the layout (...) (23 years ago, 10-Aug-01, to lugnet.trains.org)

James and All, (...) Well, I am talking from a MichLUG view, and the layouts I have seen at the shows, and of the various clubs who have had pictures and the like up. I don't think you can have an effective layout without some kind of scenery. If (...) (23 years ago, 10-Aug-01, to lugnet.trains.org)
