In all seriousness, though, how much does adopting a stretch of
highway cost?  Or is it just in labour that one must contribute

Our homeowners association adopted a stretch of highway near our subdivision
last year and now we really enjoy driving by and noticing the difference.
Missouri suggests that trash be picked up at least four times a year, but
there is no cost involved.  As a matter of fact the Department of
Transportation even provides all of the trash bags and safety vests.
