Zhengrong-

It will not be possible to use the 4.5 volt or 12 volt track with the 9 volt
system.  In the 4.5 volt track, the rails are plastic and the train run on
batteries.  In the 12 volt system, there is a metal strip which attaches down
the middle of the 4.5 volt track from which the 12 volt motors get their
power.

In the 9 volt system, the track rails have a thin strip of metal covering
them.  Metal wheels in the 9 volt motor transfer power the the motor, much
like in model railroading.  To sum up, 4.5 and 12 can be used together, but 9
volt is completely separate.

Thanks, I knew something now, but is it possible to use old tracks? I mean
4.5v or 12v tracks? Then how about the wide and height of train?

Now to the good part;-)  First off, all of the track from the 1960's until
today have always had the same *gauge*, or distance between the rails.  That
means that any wheel LEGO has produced over the years will work on any track
they have produced.  So train dimensions have pretty much always been the
same.... until now:-)

Many people (myself included) enjoy building their trains 8 studs wide as
opposed to the standard of 6 studs wide that LEGO has always produced.  The
reasoning is that normal trains are wider than the track on which they run,
and so building a train 8 wide creates a more realistic look (if that is what
you want; many are happy with the toyish look of LEGO trains as they are).
Those issues are for you to explore on your own.

I asked such problems as I still have any train sets or parts until now!

Buy whatever you can, sell what you don't need to get money to buy more of
the stuff you need.  That's my rule of thumb....

(...) Yes but you can run a 4.5 volt on a 9v track. You could even put 12v pickups in the middle of 9v track and run all three types ! Michael Pratt (24 years ago, 31-Oct-00, to lugnet.trains)
