    6-wide vehicles —Ben Gatrelle
Since there has been some discussion of 6 stud wide vehciles lately, I though I would take a look through the recent catalogs and see which sets came with wide vehicles. Here is what I found (excluding train sets) #6453 Comlink Cruiser (Space Port) (...) (25 years ago, 7-Mar-99, to lugnet.trains)

Re: 6-wide vehicles —Scott Edward Sanburn
I know that the first generation space shuttle (2nd?) Launch Command, #6336, had the 6 wide vehicle, and I thought it was neat, so I got two. I can't think of any others. I liked the fuel truck as well, I am getting one on my next SAHS order. Scott (...) (25 years ago, 7-Mar-99, to lugnet.trains)

        Re: 6-wide vehicles —Kevin Wilson
Going by the pictures on Pause, these sets only have 4-wide windscreens, not six: 6329 Truck Stop Cafe, 6432 Speedway Transport, 6434 Roadside Repair, 6464 Super Resuce Complex, 2148 is hard to tell but looks more like a 4-wide, 3442 is a 4-wide. (...) (25 years ago, 7-Mar-99, to lugnet.trains)

         Re: 6-wide vehicles —Larry Pieniazek
You could argue that the yellow and red/black specialty truck sets (same design, just different color schemes) are 6 wide even if their only have 4 wide windshields. They have wider wheels and footboards, etc. Also, their prototype (if it's a KW or (...) (25 years ago, 7-Mar-99, to lugnet.trains)

         Re: 6-wide vehicles —Kevin Wilson
(...) You're right, Larry. Sorry Ben! I was focusing on the windshields but Ben was actually referring to _vehicles_. Kevin (25 years ago, 7-Mar-99, to lugnet.trains)

         Re: 6-wide vehicles —Ben Gatrelle
(...) Yes, I was referring to the total width of the truck, not just the windshield. If what is to determine if a truck is 6 studs wide is its windshield, then yes those tractor trailer trucks are only four wide. Ben (25 years ago, 7-Mar-99, to lugnet.trains)

         Re: 6-wide vehicles —Larry Pieniazek
(...) I'm with Ben. I'd argue that the total width (of the major parts of the vehicle) is what matters. Look at this MOC: (URL) my slush list 5 page: (URL) windshield width mattters, this is a 4 wide truck. If every element matters, this is a 10 (...) (25 years ago, 8-Mar-99, to lugnet.trains)

         Re: 6-wide vehicles —Paul Foster
(...) Got any good links to pictures of yard goats? I can't seem to find anything. I've been playing with vehicles with swing down rail wheels and it seems to me that some goats have rail wheels also. (25 years ago, 8-Mar-99, to lugnet.trains)

         Re: 6-wide vehicles —Jeff Christner
(...) Ford plants use them to move Auto Racks around. NS also owns some for MoW uses. They use the regular wheels to drive the rail wheels, the rail wheels don't move on their own, i.e. there is no traction motor in them, interesting however, is (...)         Re: 6-wide vehicles —Russell Clark
(...) 6440 Jetport Fire Squad also has a 6 stud wide windshield. Russell (25 years ago, 7-Mar-99, to lugnet.trains)

Re: 6-wide vehicles —Scott Edward Sanburn
OOPS! I have that one too! How could I forget?! Ahh, Too late, I have been here at work since 8:00AM, waiting for the final prints to come out for our project! ZZZ..... As for the other sets such as 6329, 6452, 6434, 2148, etc. I think Ben was (...) (25 years ago, 7-Mar-99, to lugnet.trains)

          Re: 6-wide vehicles —James Powell
the 4559 train also has a 6 wide truck in it. James (25 years ago, 7-Mar-99, to lugnet.trains)

         Re: 6-wide vehicles —Ben Gatrelle
(...) This is a good looking vehicle. And Pause dates it at 1991, so was this the first appearance of the 6 stud wide windshield? Ben (25 years ago, 7-Mar-99, to lugnet.trains)

Re: 6-wide vehicles —Scott Edward Sanburn
No, I think it came out in the early 80's, if I am correct? Larry? Scott Sanburn (...) (25 years ago, 7-Mar-99, to lugnet.trains)

         Re: 6-wide vehicles —Larry Pieniazek
(...) That's a Joshua kind of question. I am no expert on parts or sets because I only got started again 1.3 years ago. (25 years ago, 7-Mar-99, to lugnet.trains)

         Re: 6-wide vehicles —Joshua Delahunty
(...) Wow, Larry. I didn't know I had the "rep" with you. I'm honored. :) (shame on you for not knowing this -- it _is_ LEGO Train trivia :-P) Scott's on the money. 1980 saw the first 6-stud-wide windshields, and they were all trains related. See (...)          Re: 6-wide vehicles —James Powell
(...) Are you sure? I would have thought that it was either "expert builder" or space prior to that. I have a instruction book that has a 6 wide (0r at least I think it is...don't have it here to check) windscreen on a truck. (clear...now slightly (...)           Re: 6-wide vehicles —Joshua Delahunty
(...) Yep, pretty darned sure. It's a "Train" element in my estimation. Am I positive? No: "Only fools are positive." (...) If I recall correctly, Joe Lahrer has specifically stated as trivia that there has been only one (or is it two?) Technic/EB (...) (25 years ago, 18-Mar-99, to lugnet.trains)

Re: 6-wide vehicles —Scott Edward Sanburn
Oh, that sidewalk cafe! #6402. I knew that part came from somewhere. Thanks, Josh! I am glad my memory isn't that bad, sheesh! Scott Sanburn (...) (25 years ago, 20-Mar-99, to lugnet.trains)

        Re: 6-wide vehicles —Steven Barile
There is also a class of truck cabs that are 5 studs wide. The 1/2 stud granularity gives a less course model. The Indy Transport 6335 is an example. I've used this technique a lot on trains as well. SteveB www.PNLTC.org (...) (25 years ago, 11-Mar-99, to lugnet.trains)
