If we suppose that Disney and (for our purposes) TLG are monitoring sites on the net such as James' webpage, I think we (trainiacs) should come up with some sort of top 10 or 20 list to make known beyond a doubt what TLG can produce which will (...)    (...) But if I understand TLG's reasoning correctly, the act of publishing your own ideas would make those ideas unusable by TLG. Something to do with copyrights and such? So maybe you would be better off _not_ publishing all those great ideas, and (...) (26 years ago, 19-Jan-99, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Speculation: Monorail, Disney, Past Coincidence? —John Neal
I respectfully disagree for these reasons. First of all, one can hardly call an idea such as "motor with 6 large wheels" or "gentler curved rails" original. These are the kinds of things I'm talking about. Also, I point to Matt's scratch built (...) (26 years ago, 19-Jan-99, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Speculation: Monorail, Disney, Past Coincidence? —Steven Barile
Plenty of valid points here... LEGO AS is market driven. We must assume that we are all a special interest group of adult LEGO train builders. A very small group, even if we were 1000 strong (that number seems even a bit high). When LEGO AS designs (...) (26 years ago, 19-Jan-99, to lugnet.trains)

(...) Define "we". People who read/post to lugnet? Adult Fans Of Lego, worldwide? I'm sure there are more than 1,000 AFOL's worldwide. More than 10,000. Steve (26 years ago, 19-Jan-99, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Speculation: Monorail, Disney, Past Coincidence? —Steven Barile
I meant LEGO *train* builders. And you might be right, there may be 1000's but I still have the feeling that we are not as big a general audience. Certainly more vocal! BTW the top line "Plenty of valid points" was aimed at the other postings in (...) (26 years ago, 19-Jan-99, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Speculation: Monorail, Disney, Past Coincidence? —John Neal
Remember, the squeaky wheel gets the grease;) But all seriousness aside, I think there would be a large market of AFOL who would be interested in model team detailed trains (if you build it, he will come)! (...) (26 years ago, 20-Jan-99, to lugnet.trains)

I'm a purist. No non TLG elements sully my creations. I'm fairly pedantic about it(1) too. But I'd make a big fat exception for train specific LEGO compatible elements that came from elsewhere. The PNLTC gang had a project afoot for drivers but it (...) (26 years ago, 20-Jan-99, to lugnet.trains)

Please, Larry, do not omit the diesels and their sand needs as well. Isn't it stored in the nose? BTW the whole issue of using larger drivers, 6 drivers, etc., is mute (sic) because the turning radius of Lego track is too sharp- what to do about (...)
