what do you mean by cad instructions vs. rendered images. Do you like the
graphic output by ldraw, but not when it has been further rendered by
pov-ray?

OK. The problem with this is that the programs needed for these items are • very
hard to document in print. Can you print out a scout program on paper? I • think
not, therefore how is the person who is building the excellent model going • to
know how to program the scout to do what it is supposed to do to make the • model
work.

Scout programs can be listed in a .txt file. The scout can be programmed in
NQC (just like the RCX) or Lego's Scout Assembler, both of which are text
files.


any way except for rendered images is just fine.
Personally, I like rendered images. What do you have against them?

(...) Yes. Rendered images a re not appropriate for building instructions. (...) I didn't know that. Dont you need to have an IR tower to do that though? (...) I have had some very bad experiences in the past with povray and I have sworn that I wont (...) (25 years ago, 3-Feb-00, to lugnet.trains)
