Re: Maryland & Pennsylvania RR NW2 Diesel Switcher #81

(...) Cale, I love it. Lots of delicious detail. I really like the grill work on the front of the hood. Thanks for the associated history of the switcher. It helps bring this MOC into life. -Jeramy (17 years ago, 10-Mar-08, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Finally a video of my steamers in action

While staying with Chris MacDougald for the recent TexLUG display, I was finally able to get the video I took of my trains in action at the NETLTC display back in the fall out of my father's camcorder. Even got myself a YouTube account. Check it (...) (17 years ago, 10-Mar-08, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.general)

Maryland & Pennsylvania RR NW2 Diesel Switcher #81

Maryland & Pennsylvania NW2 Diesel Switcher #81 (URL) Originally formed in 1901 from several narrow gauge lines, the now standard gauge Maryland & Pennsylvania RR railroad (Ma & Pa to its fans) traced a meandering seventy-seven mile route to connect (...)   Re: Sekiyama MOC - clad tankcar

(...) I did indeed. And I'd forgotten Vikings used them so thought they were newer. (...) His (URL) tram track modules> are incredible too (I think Tim D or I have posted a link to them here before). I find Sekiyama to be a great source of ideas in (...) (17 years ago, 9-Mar-08, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Re: Sekiyama MOC - clad tankcar

(...) You mean the Viking wheels (55817) not the train wheels no doubt (and indeed, nice trick). Going up one level to clocodile, there are several neat MOCs too. Two that struck me were the TEE and the SBB-CFF-FFS (great use of an inverted battery (...) (17 years ago, 9-Mar-08, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

  Re: 4-6-0 Olton Hall (5972)

I took some photo's of the three coaches today. I was able to build all three from two hobby train sets with a few of extra piece from my collection (yellow). There are two regular coaches plus the breakvan. All have easy pop-off roof sections. (2 (...) (17 years ago, 8-Mar-08, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

  Re: LEGO 7996 and 9V

(...) I wish that I had read this a few months ago (when I should have). I just bought a 7996 with the intention to convert it to 9V. I am very disapointed that you can not have both of the parallel straights switched to go straight at the same (...) (17 years ago, 8-Mar-08, to lugnet.trains)

GMLTC to display at La Crosse & Three Rivers Model Railroad Show

The Greater Midwest LEGO Train Club will be showing this weekend at the La Crosse & Three Rivers Railroad Club 27th Annual Model Railroad Show. Come see the GMLTC’s 18’x30’ ever-expanding modular all-LEGO town & train layout. Club member Judy Payne (...)   Sekiyama MOC - clad tankcar

(2 URLs) BS> I'm yet to see (URL) post here so I've taken the liberty of passing on this lovely little MOC. I think the new wheels work really well here. Tim (17 years ago, 6-Mar-08, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

  Re: Ballasting Corners?

(...) Clifton- The curve track ballasting layout document lives on our file server at home. I'll try to put it on scltc.org and post a link. The core problem that the drawing solves is maximizing the amount of square "gravel" that can be placed (...) (17 years ago, 6-Mar-08, to lugnet.trains)

La Crosse Model Train Show - March 8th & 9th

Just a reminder that the 27th annual La Crosse & Three Rivers Railroad Club's Model Railroad Show is this weekend (March 8th & 9th) at the La Crosse Center in La Crosse, WI. Show hours are 10 am until 6 pm on Saturday and 10 am until 4 pm on Sunday. (...) (17 years ago, 6-Mar-08, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.events, lugnet.announce, FTX)

  Re: Ballasting Corners?

(...) Is it possible to have Susan post the link here for everyone, since there are times when all of the clubs combine track at major shows. I know there is some reluctance by some clubs to move to standardization by including these types of (...) (17 years ago, 6-Mar-08, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: Ballasting Corners?

(...) Dave- We have a drawing that use to make the curves (and another to do switches) for all the ballasted track on SCLTC layouts. I'll ask Susan to send you one. -Ted SCLTC (17 years ago, 5-Mar-08, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Any interest in high amp. Train controllers?

(...) Steve- National gives the Absolute Maximum Value for Vin for the LM317 at 40V, but why would you want to run that high for a load that's supposed to be limited to 9V? You would waste of the extra power dissipation of the bigger device and get (...) (17 years ago, 5-Mar-08, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Any interest in high amp. Train controllers?

(...) [snip] Hah, and here was me using a 12V Lego train transformer to run my 9V trains ;-) Using a suitable adapter wire of course. But that was 220V, so I left it in the UK. I'm not sure of the rating of those transformers, but I think it was a (...) (17 years ago, 5-Mar-08, to lugnet.market.buy-sell-trade, lugnet.trains)

Re: Any interest in high amp. Train controllers?

(...) Here's a couple of useful power supplies. They work on US line voltage or from 100V AC up to 240V AC. For unmodified train controllers: (URL) You should get close to the maximum amount out of you controller, but the controller well overheat if (...)   Re: Any interest in high amp. Train controllers?

(...) True, but you still have to upgrade the diodes, capacitor and the power supply. As well as adding more heat sinking ability. And the 3 amp version of a LM350 can swap right into the original socket of the LM317, and still provide full (...) (17 years ago, 5-Mar-08, to lugnet.market.buy-sell-trade, lugnet.trains)

Re: Any interest in high amp. Train controllers?

(...) The LM317 is made by a bunch of different manufacturers, so there's some variation. But the original maximum suggested input is 35V or 32V between input and output. But as I mentioned before, the difference between input voltage and output (...) (17 years ago, 5-Mar-08, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Any interest in high amp. Train controllers?

(...) I haven't worked with one in a while, but I know it'll take at least 36v in, and the limit on power is basically whatever you can handle as far as heat dissipation. So if you get the one in the big transistor-body package (TO-3, I think?) and (...) (17 years ago, 4-Mar-08, to lugnet.trains)
