Hi Bob,

that assumption is not perfectly correct.

In October 2006 a single 12V engine (powered by 2 motors) has pulled this 100 waggons train.

A few months earlier we have made this attempt with a 9V engine pulling 61 cars. But we had not enough straight track to make up a good oval...

The FGLTC end of year party in late 2000 ended with the so far (and for all future?!) longest pulled LEGO train ever: Two steam engines with 4 9V motors have pulled a record train of 126 Waggons over several rounds on a 15 meters oval.

If you want to improve this record, you should try to use the 4.5V battery trains from earlier than 1968: those have had the so far strongest LEGO motors ever (ok, possibly the “Dirt Crusher” excluded) and they have had the hook couplings. => it has always been the magnet as weak spot in a train, not the motors.

Hope you enjoy + Leg Godt!

P.s.: since the best quality of LEGO trains wheels has been produced in the early and midth of nineties, it is quite unlikely, that the 126 copy train will ever be topped.

(...) Holy schamollies! That is indeed some very impressive pulling power by the 9V motors! I guess I was only making an assumption based on mis-perceptions fueled by not enough data and an unscientific guess. Boy, that's a horrible combination. (...) (...) In May, I made a test (based on your information): (URL) loco (built after set 112-2) pulled 20 two-axle "oldschool" cars. 11 of them had the old wheels with traction teeth, 6 had various spoked wheels (years 1969-1990) and 3 had the (...) (17 years ago, 23-Oct-07, to lugnet.trains)

Here's a crazy idea... How about one or more of the larger Lego train clubs that attend shows set up the following layout: a 30 x 50 foot layout (or some such large size) with no power provided at all. No batteries. No electricity. Not even solar (...) (17 years ago, 23-Oct-07, to lugnet.trains, FTX) !
