Dear all,
Just uploaded pics of my rendition of a Russian EMU that runs one of the legs
of the Trans-Siberian railway. Not sure of the name and class of it as the
only railway fan pictures I could find were on a Russian site in Russian
(x-posted to .loc.ru just in case).
You can see the real thing here or here and as
you can see it is in fact an EMU but I could find no pictures of the
carriages so left it at the engine.
I really, really like the design of this train. It has that real Soviet
Commercial Design style that is such a fascinating design movement (I know it
has a name but I cant find it off-hand). The nose is just fantastic.
The brickshelf gallery (once moderated) is
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=133026
and deep links to some pics are
Iso
view, Front view and
Side
view.
I hope to make some instructions for it sometime and have uploaded the .mpd
for a start. I still need to check that the model is buildable although I
think it is.
At present there are two designs for the SNOT nose, one which is more
realistic but unbuildable (no 1x3x2 arches in Sand Green) and the other
(pictured) which is not as satisfactory but can be built.
Please let me know what you think. Id also be interested in other peoples
experiences with Russian trains as I find the Soviet design fascinating.
Thanks for you comments,
Tim

Very good MOCs. You have catche the rounded shape very well.
I have some of them on one ofg my old pages:

Russian gallery:
http://parovoz.com/newgallery/?LNG=EN
It is an ER2 or ER9, most common types - there are EMUs, they run all over the
former sovjet union as local trains, the oldest are from 1957. They are
manufactured by RVR (http://www.rvr.lv/).
Comments:
Good model, I recoqnised it immidiately, but:
The cars have one small window in one end, all others are normal sized.
The pantograph are on the 2nd car and from there on on every 2nd car - for at 4
car train that is still 2 pantographs. The longest trains drving are 12 cars
long AFAIK. Some Eestonian trains have been rebuilt with a new cap (they were
just cars before) to become an engine. The pantographs should be app 2 studs
from the end to make it real. The through ways between the cars are missing too,
dont know if that is on purpose.
Most of them are Green with a yellow stripe, but other colours are common - such
as blue, or white/blue/red - from the Russian flag.
