Now, at first glance, I like what I see (not minding the fact of the difference in brown tones!) The newer rungs look more like what I think real rungs look like-- until I view them from the side:

Notice how fat and blobby they appear from this angle, and how the old style looks more delicate. I really wanted to like these newer elements and was planning on switching over to them eventually, but to my surprise, I am not preferring them over the old ones-- certainly not enough to go through all of the cost and trouble of switching out 100s of them.

So I will pass on them for now, although I might just build a dark red Bethgon with them and see how it looks overall, and bring it to Cincy for evaluation by all. Ah, the pursuit of the trivial:-)

I’m not even a Lego train builder, but when I look at the old version, they’re so bad that anything is an improvement. If you could build your ends upside down the new ones would even drop in the right direction.

And you have to take into account that lego’s a toy. I wouldn’t want to go back to the bad old days where parts would regulary snap. This part looks like you could stand on it without breaking it and without injuring your foot. A prototypical part would never last.
