One suggestion I’d make - while the top of the connector is in the vice, connect a standard 9v LEGO wire underneath it. This serves 2 purposes:
  1. It allows connection of a controller to test the polarity before soldering, by setting the controller and touching the wires to the conductors you can quickly see if polarity is correct, and
  2. It helps dissipate a little more of the heat from soldering (you should still ensure you apply minimum heat).
Note that although the polarity can be changed by rotating the connector 180 degrees, it’s nice to have it set the same for all leads.
