I was thinking that too, though as I said I've run out of 1x3 buffers.

One question though, can you use the narrow rail spacing around corners?
For some reason I think it should work, but I haven't had a chance to try it
yet.

I don't have any curves, but it wouldn't work exactly right.  If you think
of a 90° corner that goes up and turns right to form an 'r'.  Move the inner
rail two studs to the left.  Now, of course, it's two studs too short on the
exit at the top.  Move it two studs up, too, and again you're short.

What I'd sugest is to use four 1x1 tiles with top clips, in line with the
track and spread out around the curve, to make up the length of the inner
rail.  Or 'pony-ear' some 1x1 plates.  I'm not sure which is the best match
for the height of the track. There'll still be some variance in the gauge as
you go round, but you might make it.

(...) I've thought of that problem, too. I *think* it could be solved by building a figure-8 track. The outter tracks on each curve would be longer than the inner tracks, but by having them opposite they would cancel each other out. OK, time to dig (...) (22 years ago, 18-Mar-03, to lugnet.trains)
