New MOC: Dark Red LMS 4F 0-6-0 Freight Locomotive —Jason J. Railton
How much dark red did you say you'd got, Larry? :-) Just the one picture so far. This is a 4F 0-6-0 'Fowler', a British freight locomotive in the proper colours of the London Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS). (URL) the dark red here has come from (...)         Re: New MOC: Dark Red LMS 4F 0-6-0 Freight Locomotive —James Mathis
(...) Well, done. Nice. Really nice considering the limited element selection, and the model looks good. Nice reds constrast between the loc and the bridge. later, James Mathis (22 years ago, 16-Aug-02, to lugnet.trains)

Re: New MOC: Dark Red LMS 4F 0-6-0 Freight Locomotive —Larry Pieniazek
(...) Very little. No need to rub your good fortune in, you know. Maybe I should fly over for the October RLD??? who can put me up for the weekend if I use some miles to come over? :-) (...) (22 years ago, 17-Aug-02, to lugnet.trains)

Re: New MOC: Dark Red LMS 4F 0-6-0 Freight Locomotive —Jason J. Railton
(...) Whoa there - none of this came from LLW. (Apart from the trans-green frog under the bridge that you can't see anyway). All the dark red is from breaking up the sets I mentioned. That's a LOT of sets, though fortunately I didn't have to buy (...) (22 years ago, 17-Aug-02, to lugnet.trains)

Re: New MOC: Dark Red LMS 4F 0-6-0 Freight Locomotive —Jason J. Railton
(...) As a P.S. to my reply; I would, but I won't be going to the next one. You could ask in loc.uk if you really fancy it. But, be warned - I couldn't find any dark red (nor sand red in fact) in two visits there, and believe me I looked. If they (...) (22 years ago, 19-Aug-02, to lugnet.trains)

Re: New MOC: Dark Red LMS 4F 0-6-0 Freight Locomotive —Christopher Masi
(...) Arrgh :)! I still don't get it. Sure, I have built some US freight (OK I have only built US freight), but I have used words like bogie! Why don't you just pick on xxxx. I haven't used the word Eurot®@$h to describe those lovely European trains (...) (22 years ago, 21-Aug-02, to lugnet.trains)

Re: New MOC: Dark Red LMS 4F 0-6-0 Freight Locomotive —Larry Pieniazek
(...) Who do you mean by Xxxxy? Surely not me, as the use of the word "lately" is incorrectly restrictive in my case... nice is a universal modifier, always applicable. :-) FUT ot.fun (22 years ago, 21-Aug-02, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.off-topic.fun)

Re: New MOC: Dark Red LMS 4F 0-6-0 Freight Locomotive —Tim David
(...) Was that the Airfix one? Of course you could have made your job easier by making an all black one! but that wouldn't make nearly such nice model. I've been watching the models you have posted and each one gets better. I can't really work out (...) (22 years ago, 19-Aug-02, to lugnet.trains)

Re: New MOC: Dark Red LMS 4F 0-6-0 Freight Locomotive —Jason J. Railton
(...) Actually it's an HO-gauge (not OO, like current UK models) electric model made by Lima. I do have a black one as well, but that's no fun. :-) (...)          Streamlining (was Re: New MOC: Dark Red LMS 4F 0-6-0 Freight Locomotive) —Frank Filz
(...) I'm not sure that lack of streamlining in US locomotives is due to lack of emission controls. I suspect it's far more because trains aren't operated at speeds which require it. Note that the Amtrack locomotives are reasonably streamlined (...) (22 years ago, 19-Aug-02, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Streamlining (was Re: New MOC: Dark Red LMS 4F 0-6-0 Freight Locomotive) —Jason J. Railton
(...) I didn't know that - it's surprising actually, given the distances over which freight can be hauled in the US. I know the trains can be extremely long, and it's an old movie cliché for escaped convicts with their legs chained together to still (...) (22 years ago, 19-Aug-02, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Streamlining (was Re: New MOC: Dark Red LMS 4F 0-6-0 Freight Locomotive) —Larry Pieniazek
(...) Right. At 70 MPH, (a typical top speed for a fast freight such as TOFC or doublestacks that are on a manifest or symbol freight) in the US, and at typical horsepower to weight ratios, the drag from the doublestacks or trailers far exeeds the (...)          Re: Streamlining (was Re: New MOC: Dark Red LMS 4F 0-6-0 Freight Locomotive) —Dan Voelkerding
(...) Streamlining was used b/c of the Pionner Zephyr. Then streamlining was put on PRR K4 3768 and turned out to be a flashy locomotive. Other railroads did the same but they found that it tampered with maintence, which was more important then (...) (22 years ago, 19-Aug-02, to lugnet.trains)

Dark Red in trains (was ...Dark Red LMS 4F 0-6-0 Freight Locomotive) —Steve Barile
Funny you posted this. I just swapped out the blue-voilet for dark red on my Royal Hudson. What I find interesting is how many of the new colors play all kinds of tricks on your eyes. The dark red stripe on my model looks rather brown. Sorry no pics (...) (22 years ago, 19-Aug-02, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Dark Red in trains (was ...Dark Red LMS 4F 0-6-0 Freight Locomotive) —Jake McKee
(...) For that matter, some of the old colors can play the same tricks. I have a standard red MOC that I wanted to have a dark gray stripe. When I actually used dark gray, the colors were really hard to look at (kinda like red and green together). (...) (22 years ago, 20-Aug-02, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Dark Red in trains (was ...Dark Red LMS 4F 0-6-0 Freight Locomotive) —Jason J. Railton
(...) I know what you mean, but you can use it to your advantage. The Star Wars <set:7134> A-Wing fighter is a good example. The original is a grubby white with maroon panels. The Lego version has red panels, but the use of light grey gives an (...) (22 years ago, 20-Aug-02, to lugnet.trains)

Jason and Steve, What is the color number for dk red and dk blue (in MLCad)? I'm trying to do a Napa Valley Alco rendering, and it uses dk red.      (...) Well, I'm not Steve B ... well, actually I am. Anyway, looking at <www.ldraw.org/refer...s/colors>, the color code for dark red is 320. There isn't a recommended/official color code for dark blue; I'd go with 272 (that's 1 (blue) * 16 + 0 (...) (22 years ago, 21-Aug-02, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Dark Red in trains (was ...Dark Red LMS 4F 0-6-0 Freight Locomotive) —Steve Barile
I've looked at the ldraw.org color table but didn't know there was a system to determine a color value. 272 = (that's 1 (blue) * 16 + 0 (black) + 256) looks awfully like an equation of sorts, is there a definition on how this works somewhere? And I (...) (22 years ago, 21-Aug-02, to lugnet.trains)

(...) Huh. There used to be documentation of this (I thought), but I can't find one now. It's pretty simple - when you want to mix two of the colors from 0 to 15 (black, blue, green, teal, red, dark pink, brown, gray, dark gray, light blue, bright (...)
