Having just received my first 12v train set I'm sort of train voltage
complete, well not quite, while I have about 80% of the special parts
from 7710, I can't really consider myself as having a push train. I do
have 95%+ complete 7722 and a formerly new in box 7735 to add to my
extensive (but no where's near complete) 9V collection (I also have a
few 4.5V and 12V accessory sets).
I'm planning on making some 9V-12V converter wires (I've been buying a
bunch of 12V light kits - they have been price competitive with 9V
lights, especially considering the extras they come with which started
this idea, actually, it started when I got some 12V lamps in a lot of
misc parts [I also have some 4.5V lamps, so I'm lamp voltage complete
also - and I guess there you would have to include the rock raiders
"laser" which is 1.5V - are there any 3V accessories?]) so I can use a
spare 9V controller to run my 12V train (of course it will get kind of
boring running it around an oval, I'll have to keep an eye out for some
12V track).
Of course had the person who sold me the 7735 not decided he wanted to
keep the 7715, I would have had the opportunity to open a new in box
train set of every voltage (but not yet as an AFOL - for opening a NIB
4.5V train set I'm including the one I got as a kid - but no longer
have).
Well, just had to share the joy of getting a nifty older set.

| (...) It isn't that hard to run 12V stuff using a 7864 transformer. All you need (besides the 7864) is a 110V->220V stepup transformer, which would run you $20-30. The 7864 has the advantage of being able to run accessories without having everything (...) (23 years ago, 5-Apr-01, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.loc.us.nc)
