  Re: subway info?

(...) I haven't been in the NYC subways enough to know, but there sure is some interesting stuff in Boston's T stations. Some inspirations I would take from the T: - Track leading off into dark tunnel to nowhere - Old traction equipment which is (...) (24 years ago, 2-Mar-01, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: subway info?

In lugnet.trains, Frank Filz writes: <Extolls the virtues of Boston as a source of proto inspiration> (...) Well Boston DOES have Acela, it leaves from South Station. But it's not all that high speed till it clears the in town trackage... Of all the (...) (24 years ago, 2-Mar-01, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: subway info?

(...) It's been years since I've been on the T or even driving in Boston, but I forgot about those electric buses. Way cool. And the T on Commonwealth ave, I used to love riding that.... One thing I have (...) I never thought of that, it makes (...) (24 years ago, 2-Mar-01, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: subway info?

(...) There's even just a bit of El. on the Green Line (though I think it's dramatically reduced from what it once was). I think they're running a restored PCC on the Green Line now for special occaisions. At least one of those stations has a couple (...) (24 years ago, 2-Mar-01, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: subway info?

(...) The T gets pretty crowded at rush hour also. I'm mostly thinking of the graffitti, though I supose some of that may be put on during the day. I guess it's possible that Boston has somewhat better behaved people (1), but I've been surprised at (...) (24 years ago, 2-Mar-01, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: subway info?

Thanks for describing Park St. Station, that was exactly what I was thinking of when I said "complex underground trackage" but I couldn't remember the name. I forgot that I have a T map in my computer bag, as well as a T token, a BART card with some (...) (24 years ago, 2-Mar-01, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: subway info?

(...) It took me a minute to realise you meant Charles/MGH. :D That intersection isn't *that* bad. You just have to learn how to drive in Boston, that's all. We're all really good drivers here- perhaps you're just not up to scratch. eric (24 years ago, 2-Mar-01, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: subway info?

(...) So's Rainman... what's your point? :-) I dunno if it's actually true though. I haven't met a Boston driver I couldn't beat through a squeezedown (think the merges on old I 93 coming into downtown, or the merge shuffle to get to the callahan (...)   Re: subway info?

(...) Note that even with the wide swing they still loose contact between the trolley poles and the electricity. Actually I have seen this quite often, usually the bus just costs to the side of the street and the driver gets out and there is a wheel (...) (24 years ago, 2-Mar-01, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: subway info?

(...) I don't notice much graffitti on the subways in NY. Next to none, I think. The Welcome Back Kotter days are over as far as that is concerend. They've really done a good job cleaning that up. There is graffitti in the tunnels though. But none (...) (24 years ago, 2-Mar-01, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: subway info?

(...) There was a Train store in the Natick Mall that at one point had an small-scale (I don't know all the train scales, I want to say this was HO but that could be wrong, I think N is the tiny one, right?) Green Line trolley. I was so taken with (...) (24 years ago, 2-Mar-01, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: subway info?

(...) I haven't been on quite everything. I've never been on the Mattapan Extension, or even down to Ashmont. I think I've just been as far as Quincy Adams (I used to have a friend in Quincy, but I don't think the line even extended all the way to (...) (24 years ago, 2-Mar-01, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: subway info?

(...) HO. I've always considered getting that LRV model. One of my friends in high school was a real subway fan and his model railroad actually was a transit layout, complete with a subway station. He told me of exploring the nether reaches of the (...) (24 years ago, 2-Mar-01, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: subway info?

(...) THAT'S what that noise is?! WOW, that makes sense! And MAN, it's a SCREEE...EEECH. You'd think they were dragging a 4'x8' slab of sheet metal across the tracks. --Todd (24 years ago, 2-Mar-01, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.loc.us.ma.bos)

  Re: subway info?

"Todd Lehman" <lehman@javanet.com> wrote in message news:3aa03359.351644...net.com... (...) Are there any diagrams online of the track layout at Park Street? That would be very interesting, IMO. After visiting New York, however, the T is a tinker (...) (24 years ago, 3-Mar-01, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.loc.us.ma.bos)

  Re: subway info?

(...) I would reserve the term "tinker toy" for the San Francisco cable car, which is actually made of wood. (24 years ago, 3-Mar-01, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.loc.us.ma.bos)

  Re: subway info?

(...) Couple of comments: 1. CLRV's are prototypical on Boston tracks, I have a photo of 4029 alongside a LRV in Boston...the contrast is kind of neat (CLRV=Canadian Light Rail Vehicle, built by UTDC/SIG 2. TTC tokens can be spoffed using aluminum (...) (24 years ago, 6-Mar-01, to lugnet.trains)
